Random RP Thoughts!

I have been in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend for a little over a year. For a long time, I have been unhappy with our amount of communication. (We talk for ten minutes about five times a week. We sometimes send one or two texts a day.) For my boyfriend, this level of communication was adequate. It was disastrously low for me.

I kept comparing our conversations to my friends and the couples on r/LongDistance who talk with their significant others on the phone for hours. I wanted him to talk about his feelings, not just have a quick update on each other's lives. I took his lack of communication as a sign that he was developing closer relationships with other people and it made me so anxious (I was crying multiple times a week). Reading on here has made me realize many men are raised to be stoic. My SO is a man of few words and I was trying so hard to feminize and control him.

We update each other once a day and we are both busy pursuing STEM degrees at our respective universities. It's understandable he doesn't want to spend hours on the phone. Focusing all my attention on him was detrimental to my emotional health and I'm sure it was unattractive to my boyfriend who has always admired my independence and ambitiousness. I learned to keep my insecurities in check and focus on bettering myself. Since I made a commitment to doing so, I've lost weight, received an internship offer for next summer, developed many friendships, and spent much needed quality time with my family. I'm sure my boyfriend also feels better now that I'm not crying, anxious, and wanting to "talk about our relationship" during every conversation. (Thinking back, no wonder he didn't want to talk to me!)

Our relationship is doing much better and my mental health is better as well.

I've been feeling out how solipsism can be a good thing and it makes SO much sense. I never thought it could be a good thing until I considered how it's a survival method that women have been conditioned to since pre-history. I've obviously not seen or felt this myself, I've only see how solipsism makes me stupid and/or take things for granted. But knowing how seeing the world through a paper towel tube helps women stay sane when their surroundings are crumbling makes so much sense as a defense mechanism.

I'm also spending a lot of time pondering the transparency/mystery concept I posted recently. I think the way this works for different MB types is fascinating... I don't even have a half formed thought here but I think it manifests differently in my man and I. I don't need to see him as mysterious, although I do as he's an introvert and isn't super showy with his thoughts or feelings. I do need to see him as exciting, however, and seeing him interacting with other people is so magnetic to me. He needs to see me as mysterious, and he reacts the most to me when I am totally immersed in something. I think there's something to this.

I do not understand why most women pawn off responsibility for the family finances to the men. It has always been the responsibility of the Housewive to keep the treasury and the necessary goods.
