Well it's beautiful weather again here in the north and that means more travel and seeing people you don't often see during the dreary winter months.

This past weekend my husband and I were invited to the birthday party of his 2 year old nephew. Many people were there and many laughs were had. The party went well, everyone greeted each other warmly and happily. After lunch, cake, pinata, and presents (this was actually a pretty awesome party) things died down people milled around catching up snacking as the kids played outside.

I'm a fairly quiet person at these types of events. I like to sit and make small talk or observe. Some of my observations were a little sad. My mother taught me that when you go to a party you dress nicely. I wasn't over the top fancy or anything but I wore a nice summer dress as did my daughter. I noticed that few of the women there seemed to care about their appearance. The older women did of course, but only myself and one other young woman seemed to be dressed nicely. The rest were in baggy t-shirts, hair unkempt, and no noticeable attempt at any kind of makeup. All of these women are SAHMs. I couldn't believe the apathy they had of their appearance.

This really wasn't the worst part. I get it if you don't want to dress well. It has just finally warmed up and perhaps they didn't get their nice summer clothes out yet. The worst part was the conversation I had with my cousin in law. We exchanged pleasantries and I asked how she's been.

The topic got onto money and she said her husband "is about to lose his debit card." Ok, well his dad had a problem with gambling and I thought perhaps something similar was happening. NOPE. He just spends THE MONEY HE MAKES. On what you may ask? Stuff that he wants. She was completely fine with the 4 wheeler that he bought for the kids but something that HE wants is just too much. God that made me angry. I get living on a budget. My husband and I do. We discuss any major purchases and usually leave any "wants" until special occasions. But this is a mutually agreed upon way of life for us. Yea, sometimes I roll my eyes if hubby comes home with something unneeded from a garage sale but we budget in spending money for the both of us. To not budget in spending money and threaten to take away someones OWN MONEY is ludicrous.

Sadly, this wasn't even the worst of it with her. I hang my head in shame being the same gender as this woman. Both her and her husband agreed that they don't want any more kids and she got an IUD. Well she was saying how she really wants another one. Her husband doesn't want any more because she had to have a C-section with her last two and the hospital bills are way too much for kids. She flat out said "he doesn't have a choice in the matter" She's just going to get her IUD taken out and have one no matter what he says. If this situation was reversed there would have been an outcry at the table demanding her husbands head on a platter. But since she's a woman people laughed and AGREED with her.

After that I had to excuse myself so that I wouldn't go off on her. I just could not believe what this pathetic excuse for a woman was saying. I now remember why I hate the general population. Why can't people just be normal and care about others and especially their spouses? Is it really that hard?
