Christmas gifts!

I love DIY gifts bc they're affordable and personal.

I keep a list of gift ideas year round (for bday, xmas, valentines, or unscheduled surprises). I've used my phone's Notes app but recently downloaded a xmas gift list app. If he mentions something he wants or likes I try to jot it down right away. Later I'll go through and see which ideas are still relevant and affordable.

I usually just notice what my SO keeps talking about when considering what to buy him as a present. He kept talking about drones one year so I bought him a drone for Christmas.

Sometimes I ask his opinion about certain products I think he might like. I asked him about Fitbit and he said it sounded like a cool idea. I could not afford that, so I bought him a pedometer/hr monitor instead.

I also pay attention to comments he makes when we are together. We were at a party playing the boardgame King of Tokyo and he remarked how much he liked the game. I will buy him the game at some point next year.

As for prices, I just do my best. I buy what I can afford because it is a better idea to be a good steward of resources than to splurge on a holiday. A person of worth won't throw a tantrum because you were not financially able to give them something they wanted.

I don't really let him know or hide what I want. I think it's important to just be upfront and honest.

I tried to think of the thing I know he wants but would never buy for himself. He’s a pretty frugal guy but will buy most things that he wants/needs. But this year, he broke his favorite pair of sunglasses but couldn’t justify the expense of getting another pair (the first ones were a gift as well). So that’s what I got him!

23andme kits! This is a fun gift I think most people would enjoy. I got it for my husband and dad!

He lost about 15lbs this summer and started exercising a little bit even though he thinks it's really boring. I've tried to be supportive but worried about being too supporting somehow making him feel I didn't like him as he was. He's been talking about joining a gym. So now I'm thinking I could give him a gymmembership or something like that. I obviously would really like it if he got more muscle... so why not encourage this development that I've been hoping for for years?
