I am a very emotional person; I have been as long as I can remember. My feelings get hurt very quickly and when someone brings up something critical of me I start feeling personally attacked and go into defense mode. I get very sensitive especially during certain times where I am in a bad mood, angry, or frustrated, and especially during fights. This has been causing many fights and tension in my relationship with my SO especially since we committed and moved in together. He feels that whenever he brings up something I almost automatically make it about my feelings and get defensive and then stray from the point or issue he was trying to bring up about the relationship which leaves him feeling angry, frustrated, and neglected. He feels like this happens almost every time and it has been adding a lot of tension to our relationship. I do recognize that I do this but when it happens my emotions take over and things start spiraling and before I know it it becomes a full blown fight and its hard to back track.

I have a hard time taking control of my emotions and not seeing everything as an attack or a harsh criticism of me and I'd like to learn how to step back in those moments and respond to him better so that he doesn't feel neglected, hurt, or like he isn't being heard or supported in the relationship. I usually realize after the fight that I didn't respond in the best way but It's in the moment where I have a hard time not getting caught up in my emotions and head. Please help! I'd appreciate any advice.
