Sorry in advance for the long post. I’m having some relationship problems and was looking for advice from this community!
I (24F) have been intermittently dating the same person (26M) for about 7 years. He was in the military and stationed across the country (sometimes even abroad) for 5 years of our relationship which sometimes made things hard. We decided to break up about a year ago, but have been in contact every few months since. He has asked me again and again to be his girlfriend, but I have declined each time because of the distance and feeling like our relationship wasn’t going anywhere. Long story short, in April of this year he told me that he was considering moving to his hometown (where I currently live) since he was done with the military, and he wanted to date me again when he came back. I told him that I wasn’t ready, cut all contact, and didn’t speak to him again until this September. In September I sent him a text and we started catching up... and to my surprise, he had moved about 20 minutes away from me. I agreed to go on a date with him and we both had a wonderful time. At the end of the date I asked him if I could be his girlfriend again and he agreed. Although he did say that he was in a bad place mentally and was depressed to the point of isolating himself and not eating. He said the transition out of the military had been hard on him and I would need to be patient with him if we were to get back together. The next day I barely heard from him so I called him and told him if we moved too quickly and he didn’t want to be in a relationship that I understood. We both agreed that we made the decision to be in a relationship off of emotion in the moment, but he said that he wanted me to be his girlfriend and didn’t want that title to change. We made plans to hang out that weekend. Here’s where things get confusing. The day that we were supposed to hang out, I didn’t hear from him at all. I texted him a few times and he didn’t reply. I texted saying “I’m starting to get worried that I haven’t heard from you, if I don’t hear from you by 5pm I’m coming over to check on you.” he said “What? No. I don’t want any company right now. I’m sorry if I’m hurting your feelings. Have a great weekend.” I sent him a few texts telling him I wanted to be there for him and asking him not to push me away, but I haven’t heard from him AT ALL since then. It’s week 5 of him completely ghosting me to the point where he won’t even open my Snapchat messages or read my texts. I know he’s okay because his Snapchat score will sometimes change (I’m not concerned that there’s anyone else in the picture, his score increases by 1 or 2 every few days as if he’s opening messages but not responding). I’m worried, confused, and hurt. I can’t reach out to him anymore because I’ve texted him 4 times since he ghosted me, and snapchatted him a few times as well. I don’t want to seem crazy, but I’m so upset. Does anyone have any advice about how to move forward? Important info - I saw his mom after our date (I stopped by his house for a while and he just moved back in with his mom until he finds a place here), and she cried when she saw me and told me how much she missed me. She asked if I had time to stay for some wine but I wasn’t able to. (She and I also have a long history together - I would take her out for Mother’s Day, Christmas, etc. while her son was away in the military and we became extremely close.) I have been thinking about texting his mom and telling her everything that happened and how worried I am, and asking her if there’s anything I can do. Is that a bad idea? He has never ghosted me before, and this whole thing feels so unlike him. Thanks in advance for any and all advice on how to proceed!
