Gifts might be a bit much for a first time meeting them (or maybe just some chocolates - ask your SO about this), but you should offer to help his mother clean up after meals, and help her with laundry/cooking chores etc. once you see how the household is run.

Help his mother with the domestic chores and show off your femininity around his father. Of course, you should have a very sweet demeanor towards both of them. You should also make quite obvious how well you treat their son; don't hold back here.

Good impression on his parents, while not everything, goes a long way.

I think small gifts are fine as a way of saying "thanks for having me in your home."

What would be my point of focus is talking well about your SO, or, their son/brother. My jaw hits the floor when I hear wives talk negatively about their husband to their own family, in public. I constantly compliment his family about the way they raised him, how good of a human being he is, his valuable traits, etc.

If I commiserate with them about one of his less-than-great traits (like him not keeping his timings), then I acknowledge it, but quickly respond that he's either improved or bring up a counter (positive) trait to even it out.

As others have said, the other things to do are to just make yourself useful: clean, cook, and contribute. Another suggestion: If you have fights with your SO during your time there, take it outside. Keep it private. Don't involve the family or ask them to take sides--even if married, this isn't a good idea.

One last tip: try to get close to the women in his family, as they'll be your closest ally in marriage. You'll have to feel them out to see if you personalities mesh, but if they do, make a point to spend time with them and get to know them. If your personalities don't gel, still be respectful.

A gift of flowers is nice for his mother. Be gracious, kind, and ask to help. Don't display being "too comfortable". Simply be respectful and treat them like you woukd treat him. No phone at dinner or while being social. Be present. Research the area and ask about local events or sights. Be you :)
