I’ve been with my boyfriend for about a year. We have a very happy and healthy relationship. You could argue that I was the rebound from his previous on and off again multiple year relationship. They were toxic for each other and often quite abusive to each other. His mother has invited the ex girlfriend over for lunch this afternoon, and I am supposed to attend a dinner party at her house this evening as well. I really don’t want to go and I’ve got my boyfriend know I feel the situation is inappropriate. His mother makes most of the decisions and their family and they have discussed us getting engaged. I’ve unfortunately taken this as a sign of disrespect to me. How would you all handle?
