Since he’s brought it up, there should be actually pretty easy. I assume he already has your ring size but if he doesn’t just say something like “Hey, since you’re planning on proposing, here’s my ring size. Also, I really don’t care for diamonds what I really want is: {What you want.}”

Simple as.

If he already has your ring size, then delete that part.

She can shoot him a text that says, "omg I was on the phone with [you] and she told me you're gonna promise. That's so exciting! If you need any help planning the proposal or finding the ring I would love to help. I know [you] might be hard to shop for since she's anti-diamond. There's so many beautiful x rings out there though and I'd love to help you look"

If you really really don’t want a diamond (the traditional engagement ring stone) you should tell him asap. Are you anti-diamond completely or just for engagement rings?

The way I’ve been learning is I would love… whatever stone you would love, you can always add more to make sure he understands your hate of diamonds. This is also dependent on your relationship, I know personally my husband wanted to know the type of ring I wanted , we looked together one day and he picked it out on his own

I made sure my closest friends knew what I had in mind and wanted, but it ended up not being necessary. It came up organically at some point in conversation, and I was just up-front about what I hoped for in a ring. My husband ended up proposing with a modest ring but brought me to a custom ring maker friend who made me the perfect ring. I’m still so in love with it years later.

Full text: So, curious what the RPW community's opinion is on this because I am torn. My boyfriend told me he plans to propose soon and is in the process of planning it.

I have a strong anti-diamond engagement ring stance. Haven't told him this yet. There are two potential stones I do want for personal reasons, and I want his help deciding on which of the two to get. (Or perhaps get a combined design with both).

Told him recently that I was peeking at engagement rings online and essentially planted the seed that I have a preference. What are your thoughts on being more direct? My two options are very non-traditional. Not something he could just guess. They are also WAY cheaper than a diamond. I really, really don't want to end up with a diamond, and I feel the only way is to tell him what I do want. At the same time, I don't want to seem entitled or that I'm taking control of something that "should" be his decision. How would you all approach this?
