Honestly, this seems like something that might fall under the "no personal information" part of reddit's rules; even though you're willing to give your own out, you're requesting it from others as well.

I'd honestly never heard of redditgifts until you mentioned it. I think that's supposed to be considered "more controlled" because reddit is asking you for your info, as opposed to a random user asking, and you're giving it to reddit, who then goes off and gives it to a random user...which makes no sense to me. I don't know, it's not something I would do anyway - I can count on one hand the number of people I trust. :P

I wish we could. I'm based in the UK, and I long to have a pen pal - for any reason! Maybe we should set up a website external to reddit, where we can arrange this type of thing and (hopefully) keep safe.

As others have pointed out, this simply isn't possible because of privacy concerns. That said, there are pen pal websites you can search for. The best ones (in my opinion) usually have a little blurb about each individual (likes, interests etc) and you actually exchange emails with them first, then you can switch to hand-written letters if things go well.

I love writing letters as well, and it is a declining practice. Which is why I never pass up an opportunity to create a card - whether it's to thank someone, or if it's a goofy holiday card (I made custom cards for my SO to distribute at his work for a holiday and everyone really enjoyed the slightly macabre humor of them).

You can also ask your friends and family members if they'd like to exchange letters with you. If you enjoy writing letters, then reach out to people and send them. Just understand that people may take quite a while to respond, and that's okay. Be patient and make sure that you're doing this because you enjoy the process of writing.
