Lately I feel I have been more irritable or “grumpy” than normal. I don’t like the way that feels, and I certainly don’t like when it bleeds into my relationship. My man is very patient and understanding, but he deserves more from me.
When I think about it, I think my irritability mostly stems from stress related to my work/finances. We are not in a position where I can stop working. So I own a small business and work from home. I do truly enjoy what I do and for the most part it actually adds to my life. But there are also times where the fluctuation in income can be stressful for me. I could scale back, but I am trying to go after my debts pretty aggressively and that means putting in the hours to find new clients and taking on more than usual.
I also have ADHD, which I have been treated/medicated for. When I take my medication and I am focused on something, it is very difficult for me to step away. Especially when it comes to work, I have the mindset of “wow I’m actually working and being productive I should take advantage of this.” And again, because I actually enjoy it, it’s hard for me to stop.
The past few weeks, I’ve been working past 5, and really struggling to turn off my work brain because I’m in the zone. My man will come home from the office and I find myself irritated at the interruption and not giving him my best. I have been snapping more than usual and I hate it.
This goes against everything I believe. I know there is an issue here and I need to fix it. I can find a way to adjust my work schedule.. but I am just struggling with how to have a better hold on my emotions. Particularly irritation and frustration.
Does anyone have any advice or gone through something similar?
