Hey there! I’ve been browsing RP Women for a while now and I’ve had a question tossing in my mind for a while. I’ve read many of the posts, especially the basics on relationships and having trust and faith in your man.

I’ve done that, in a past relationship. I vetted as best I could and now my ex and I do not speak anymore though we parted on good, mutual terms. The reason we broke up, was merely he felt he couldn’t take anything further since he had so much more to work on himself. As in, he was going through therapy, had some body issues as well as anger issues (towards himself, resentment in his family). He passed my vetting, I mean he’s actually a kind guy, has a good job, steady and intelligent and throughout the time I found out about these struggles, I chose to put faith in him since I knew that his actions always came from a good heart. I still stand by that now. In the end, what broke it all, was simply because despite my faith, he felt he couldn’t do it after all - that all the struggles were too much that he wasn’t capable of going through together with the future we planned. He just looked so defeated and I could hardly believe it when we broke up, when I confronted him about all of it. He seemed so confident when we were first got together.

My question is, really, my ex is a guy who is actually kind and successful and he passed my vetting - so it makes me doubt myself a little. How do I get better next time? Since I’m becoming afraid to put my faith and trust in another man in the future again, even if he is great, because I feel..well if this screwed up, what about the next? What did I miss?

I do want to be able to have faith, again.
