(Names changed for obvious reasons)

So my flatmate and his girlfriend have been dating for nine years now, and as they've grown, I have noticed a distinct difference in the way they interact. Specifically, that at some point, she began baby talking to him. It started semi innocently enough with her doing it on occasion when no one was around, but it slowly grew to the point where she almost exclusively talks like that to him. All of us find it incredibly obnoxious; like tonight instead of saying "hey, lets grab chinese food", she said "Jeffy weffy? 'mantha wants chineeeeeese!", flapping her arms around like a retarded infant.

Some people seem to think this is the sign of a healthy loving relationship. I disagree. I think this is what happens when all communication between a couple breaks down, and an infantile mind attempts to reconcile its place in a relationship it knows it does not deserve.

Back in college when they met, they were equals. Both were college students with a bright future, both majoring in promising career fields where they could both stand to earn a lot. Since college however, as Jeff has begun his career, already earning 50K at age 24 and getting into amazing shape, his girlfriend Samantha has since dropped out of her masters program due to "stress", STILL has no car, and also has no job. She has decided that she will live with her parents, forcing Jeff to constantly drive to the opposite end of the entire state to pick her up whenever she wants to visit, which is VERY often. Jeff is Handsome, insanely smart, and and can do far far better, and she knows it. I can already see the signs that she knows it; she flips out when he doesn't spend every available second with her, and loses it if she finds out that he spends any time around another female, even if its a childhood friend! Just last weekend when Jeff said on a skype call with her that he was going to go and hang out with everyone (we had an entire apartment of people over), she lost it at him and demanded he stay on skype. In addition, she seems to have developed a small but steadily growing gut from all the "sweety sweety cho-co-liiiiites" that she eats, and always tries to "cutely" sabotage Jeff's strict diet, causing him to gain weight as well.

I was in a shitty relationship for years before this, and always saw Jeff and Samantha as a great couple, but that was before finally waking up and realizing I had essentially been living in the matrix as far as what was "expected of me" from women as a boyfriend and a man. I am now dating a kickass amazing girl who respects and loves me as much as I respect and love her. She gives me my space, doesn't blow up my phone, and expects nothing from me except good times and adventure. However, now that I finally have someone like this, I am beginning to see how shitty and mentally destructive many other relationships are.

In the case of Jeff, his future looks dark if he doesn't cast off this infantile baby-talking parasite. He definitely is aware of this, sicne the last time we were out drinking , he very drunkenly confided in me that her attitude and increasingly poor life decisions bothered him, and he didn't know what to do.

Fuck, I can hear her in the other room doing it right now as I type this post:

"Jeffy! 'mantha wants beddy snuggles!"

Jesus fucking Christ. Why do women think it is "cute" to talk like a two year old? I'd feel like a pedophile if my girlfriend did this...

EDIT: The most awkward part is when she brings up marriage. She baby-talks about the wonderful wedding they'd have, and he never says a word.
