Can you commit violence
Alright so I'm gonna go ahead and assume you're not a native English speaker. This gives you some wiggle room as I feel like you weren't using exactly the right words to get your point across.
I am advocating being able to go wherever you want and talk to who ever you want to talk to because no one has the capacity to hurt you
I feel like "Can you be assertive?" would be a more fitting title. You can't go around afraid to take a stand, or to cause conflict. You have to be ready to defend yourself and your beliefs at all times. So when someone tries to give you shit, you show them why that's not a good idea.

I thought it was a catchy title.
[–]ColonelMitchell 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Kind of clunky, but yes. It got me to click.

Can I add your summary as the TLDR to my post ? I will credit you and your post.
[–]ILoveSunflowers 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think that's stepping down from the theme. Masculinity distinguished itself from the feminine in some stark ways, namely, the use of force. It's not an available tool in the feminine playbook, so it's discouraged, "shamed" by women to try and reduce its value. But we all know how they truly feel about the strongest looking guy in the room.
[–]ioncehadsexinapool 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
This is another thing that confuses me. I'm often torn between keeping my cool and getting really pissed off. Some guys I know really piss me off and I want to beat the fuck out of them but at the same time I feel like I should pretend they aren't getting under my skin? I don't know how to act. I've been raised in such a contradictory environment
[–]flyercomet 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Pretend you are concealing a large caliber revolver. Would you keep your cool? I would. Nothing has ever made me avoid more fights and keep my cool better than concealed firearm training. I have the ability to address real threats and the confidence to brush aside a small slight.
[–]Borsao66 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
As a professional military and police firearms trainer this is absolutely true.
"The gun is a tool and you are the weapon or the gun is a weapon and you are the tool"
You have to carry yourself with confidence, and knowing what your layered defenses (mindset, gun, knife, hand to hand/mma/whatever) are. THAT'S what gives you the edge, not the particular weapon.
[–]ColonelMitchell 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Are they doing it knowing that they're messing with you? I need some context
[–]ioncehadsexinapool 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not really. Just being an asshole. You know that insecure guy that puts everyone down in a social setting just to make himself seem better? I know a lot of those people. I really wanna fucking clock them when they do it. I just don't know what the best move is to make. Regardless I need to find a way to release my anger cause I've always been taught to "be the better person and ignore them"
Edit: also, you know that guy that calls you a pussy in front of a bunch of people because you won't do what he wants? I want to fucking clock that guy too
[–]ColonelMitchell 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You really gotta weigh your options. Is the asshole better liked in your social setting? Does anyone else feel like he's an asshole? Regardless it's not a good idea to let yourself be disrespected without you contesting it. I know someone sorta like this. He's very well liked by the girls in my setting, funny guy evidently. But he's tried testing the waters seeing what I'd do. Example: nuttapping me. He does the quick backhand you've seen so many times just as "a joke". I kicked him in the balls and then pushed about 10 feet back to the point where he fell into a few of the girls I was referring to earlier. I don't tolerate shit like that. I've also had to shut him down before verbally. He did the sort of indirect talking shit, and I had to tell him to fuck off and go whine somewhere else. He doesn't do it to me very often anymore. He still does it to others, but that's because he knows they won't do anything.

Keep your cool, keep your frame. Ignore the stupid shit.

It is not.
It is the capacity to commit violence that matters. It is the capcity for physical aggression that women want to see in their man, just as they want to see his capacity for sexual prowess.
Women don't want a man to cheat on them. It is a loss of attention, a loss of commitment, a loss of his resources. They want AF over BB, but they also don't want to be pumped and dumped. They'll tolerate a certain amount of infidelity - and this increases only with how high quality the guy is - because they're still hoping for the alpha to commit; a privilege they would not extend to a lesser man.
Women don't want a man to cheat on them, but they do want their man to be the kind of man who could. They don't want him to bang other women; but when they feel 'dread' it inspires more femininity out of them.
"Oh shit, other women want him - - I better get on that!" before and after commencing any kind of relationship, is fundamentally what drives women to want a man. Either trying to throw their cat at him, or cooking and cleaning for him, whatever - - they'll compete for the affections of an alpha they're sharing or attempting to keep for themselves before they'll do any of that for a beta styled man.
Similarly, women don't really want a man who will kill people. They don't want a man who is violent, unstable, angry, who has little self control.
They don't want a man who will kill. They want a man who could, if the need arose.
You know why 'strong silent type' is as much of a cliche as 'Tall, Dark and Handsome'?
Because women fucking love that shit, that's why.
A man with developed lean muscle, a man who can physically shield and dominate and cover a woman, a man whom other men leave a wide berth, a man who can convincingly threaten violence and even deliver on it in a measured, safe, way - - - that's a man women want.
The soldier in uniform, the boxer, the guy with an arrest, etc.
The entire paradigm of 'the bad boy' exists because of this.
Just as with cheating and sexual infidelity (sexual prowess that isn't directed at her), a woman doesn't want unhindered aggression and control-loss (violence which doesn't serve her).
But yeah, women totally want a man who is capable of violence.
There's also, as it happens in physicality alone, a great degree of physical overlap between these two kinds of men:
men who could do violence, men who could cheat
It's not coincidental.
Think about who combines both:
The Man With No Name from Clint Eastwood's Westerns, the entirety of James Bond, etc.
Sexual prowess and physical strength, virility and virtue, potency
It is what women want from men, for themselves.

The word he was looking for is probably "using force" or "being forceful" as /u/ILoveSunflowers put it

I don't know about OP, but me, as a non-native English speaker, ran into the same problem when translating Zizek from my native tongue into English.
He has a book named Violence wherein certain behavior, as described in the OP is called violence in my language, whereas in English the vocabulary has multiple words to render the same context.
[–]cavtrpr 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There are many forms of violence that can appear to be non physical. A better term would be confrontation or coercion. Assertive would make for boring title.
Conflict/warfare/coercion spectrum can range from shunning/boycotts, lawfare all the way to physical force.

Can you defend yourself if need be? Are you capable and confident with your abilities? Do you think you can/are, or do you know because you've been trained, tested, and have the experience?
If you've never been in a fight, never won a fight, always have intimidated others or simply run away, your are not a badass, no matter what you think. It's best for most people to avoid fights, they have little to no experience.
Yeah violence can get a girl wet, but what really does it is your confidence, capability, and strength. Knowing you can take the pain, endure the hardship, and overcome obstacles and adversaries easily will make her drip, but if you have to prove it, she will be drier than Death Valley.

I feel like there's a lot of butthurt in this thread and whenever this topic gets brought up. There is a wealth of evidence that this is the case, from the relatively high incidence of female orgasm during rape, to serial killers getting stacks of marriage proposals in prison, to the thread about the girl masturbating to the guy who beat up her bf in front of her.
Sorry guys--this is just the way it is. TRP should be about dealing with reality, not hiding under the politically correct rock that times have changed and that the capacity for violence is no longer relevant.
[–]SgtTRP 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for this comment.
I personally never defend women. If I get attacked, walking in a dark alley with a girl, I tell her to run and then I run myself. Instinctually I don't walk into a dark alley unless I know the neighborhood well. But OP is absolutely right; violence is sexy. I can hold my own in a fight and I have an intimidating enough appearance. And I think it helps with women. I just don't white knight, and I'm open about it with women.
(Intimidating is not good overall, but I can't do much about it. I'm too old to be a bieber.)
[–]ioncehadsexinapool 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Side note. I once read something a psychiatrist said, about orgasms during rape are no different from laughing when people tickling you. You don't like it, it's just a natural response. Idk what to think of it just throwing it out there

Yes i can and have commited violence. And to be honest it can really hinder relationships. A little about myself, i am a doctorate level engineer who spent most of his childhood travelling around the world spending no more than three years in one country as i went along with my dad (who is also a doctorate level engineer) as he worked for this international energy conglomerate. When i was 16, my father and came back from China so that i could finish high school and go to a top American university. I lived in this small west texas town where everyone knew everyone. During my senior year of high school, our house was broken into by these drifters who were high on meth and weed and were looking to rob a place so they could get their next score. There were three of them. They had broken into the house through the bottom level in the basement. Now i slept in the basement, it was the coolest level of the house, in terms of temperature, throughout the whole year. One of the junkies decided to go upstairs and scour the house. Both my father and i were immediately awoken by the broken door. These junkies were not very bright. the other two junkies stayed in the basement to search for valuables. One of them went into my sisters room. the other approached my room. At the time it was only my dad and me in the house. My sister was in Germany with my mom who worked as a foreign service officer for the US State Dept. The robber who was approaching my room was armed with this cheap 38. revolver. I was able to position myself in the doorway to where i was able to grab the gun as he entered my room and i was able to push him back out so i could face my sisters door when the junkie came out of her room and i could confront him. In the split second that i went for the gun and maneuvered myself towards my sister's door, i made the active choice to pull the trigger while the barrel was facing the guys face. Again this all happened in a split second but it seemed like an eternity. I was able to rationalise that i was out-manned and thankfully texas laws in terms of how you are able to deal with armed intruders in your home. A split second later, the junkie in my sister's room comes rushing out and he stops dead in his tracks. Now in that 2 seconds, i could only think two things. one, this was a fucked up situation i had gotten myself into. the second, i was secretly begging the guy to do something stupid so i could blow the guy away. There was something about ending a person's life, that i enjoyed. So when the junkie made this move towards his wait, i took his life.
Now rewind thirty seconds earlier and go upstairs, the third junkie is facing facing the wrong end of the barrel of a colt 1911. the junkie bolts out our front door and my dad gives brief chase. As he briefly chases the junkie outside, our next-door neighbor who was a police officer, was just getting out of his car after a 16 hour shift, sees my dad yelling and pointing a gun at some guy. Then next they hear three shots go off in our house. They immediately bolt downstairs to where i am and see me in what they called almost a catatonic state. I was briefly unresponsive out of shock and brief hearing loss. When the whole sheriff's dept decided to show up on our front door step, they questioned my side of the story. I told them everything i told you guys. I enjoyed the experience. I had a sense of pleasure from the whole experience. They simply said i was in shock. and the investigation cleared me of any wrong doing. to this day, i still kind of crave that experience of having the power to actively take a person's life away. the power is intoxicating. even after years of therapy and coming to terms with what i did. there will always be that one little piece of me who craves reliving that experience.
This brings me back to the point of how it can be detrimental to relationships. When you admit that you have taken away a person's life or even admit that some part of the experience, you enjoyed, people hesitate to get to know you better. It has taken a toll on my relationships, because after a while in dating, that night will always be brought up. To be honest not many people like to be friends much less significant others with people who have killed others. But after a couple relationships, i finally met the SO who finally was willing to accept me for all of my flaws and actions. I met her during grad school and we have been married for five years now.
Sometimes people dont feel safe with those who have committed violence. Violence despite being a consistent feature of humanity, is not something that is looked at in a positive light and for good reason. Violence is destructive, it can not build and only destroy. And for most people, people who have committed acts of violence are not looked at in a positive light. It almost ruined my chances of getting into a great school for college and grad school. Violence is not a good thing and should be avoided. At least in my opinion.

As you seem to be saying, I wouldn't tell anyone this story. Maybe any sons when they are able to understand? Depending on how they develop, this may be never.

Oh God no, we don't want any kids. We're both 35, and we like the fact that we can pretty much go anywhere in the world on a moments notice in terms of financials. We like to work long hours together. Every weekend w can do something new that having kids would restrict us from doing. I mean we discussed having a kid the tear before we got married but we eventually thought it was a silly idea.

It's not actually the ability to commit violence, but showing that you can hold your own and protect her from the big bad world, via the TRP basics (lifting, dark triad, taking no shit).
A good way to demonstrate value without the risk of physical harm is playing and associating with masculine sports, rugby for example

Always look like you're prepared to act violently or have someone do it on your behalf.
I have no intention of getting into a fight for a girl, but even I'll show off my ability to do violence on the off chance I ever had to.
The other day, a plate accidentally left her door unlocked and got scared that someone had broken in (she lives in an insanely safe area).
What do I do? I walk into her house with a god damned baseball bat, opening every closet, swinging it around. I checked the entire house in about 5 minutes, and she's swooning the whole time.
I came off like I was willing to beat the hell out of anyone, and that's an incredibly attractive quality to a woman.

Go to the zoo and practice staring at lions and gorillas - stare them down. Then, next time you meet someone who is fucking with you - give them the same stare.

Sports are the best way to get physical contact in a legal way.
Violence can get you arrested and that's a waste of time for something you could have achieved in some other way.
Even a tennis match can achieve the mental competitive violence you want.
Learn to let it all out.
It's all about bringing primal passions to the surface and becoming comfortable with your natural self.
The progressive emotional indoctrination machine wants to teach you the opposite of your natural self.
When in doubt do the opposite of what the progressive suggests. (the negative of a negative is a positive)

So you're saying to extort and blackmail the police force, and carry a gun around to shove in anyone's face when they test you. You're pretty much telling me to be a mob boss. Awesome, let's all be mob bosses, because that makes sense.
Edit: I know you didn't say gun, but you're saying you need to conquer anybody, and guess what? Mother fuckers got guns.

Deal with reality, not your ideal world.
At some point in your life all the words in all the languages won't matter. When that day comes you better be the most savage mother fucker on the planet or someone else will succeed in taking your wealth, your women, and your life.
We are the goddamn apex predator of this planet. Own it!
Most of this thread sounds like quivering cunts worried about how they are perceived. It is foolish and shortsighted to simply brush off a vital skill as something for "savages". Cultivate civilization, but at most that should be a thin veneer overlaying a beast who is eager to kill his enemies, take their horses, and hear their widows moaning under him.
