I know many of us have stumbled upon this new thinking coming from past relationships, some possibly very recent. All of these most likely ended badly, and there you were left looking for an answer of why the world cheated you out of your love, despite your truest intentions.
I myself have been there. I feel you. You get latched onto a girl, sometimes for years, and even now, after she's gone, possibly cheated on you, moved on, whatever the case may be... you still yearn for her back. You rationalize she won't cheat again, or things will be different. You think of the pictures, her cute face, your experiences together. The holidays, her family, the parties and friends. It's all gone now.
I hate to break it to you, but she left because you got comfortable. At the beginning, you came from a place with your back up against the wall probably. You had to push out of your comfort zone, had to go out, had to make it happen. And you did, congrats, but you let it go. You became 'ok' with who you were. You stopped improving, stopped pushing ahead, and most notable of all, gave up on your purpose.
Some of you at that point have found an outlet. For me, this was starting to travel, diving into my main hobby of racing & cars much more, and of course lifting with more intensity and passion. Still, my mind waivers back to those pictures, the 'good times', and the past.
I raise my glass to our evolution to being men. In order to become a man, he must go through troubling experiences. You may not be a solider in a great war, but the battles in your life are personal and real. You must lose in order to gain. The pain can be intense, your mind racing, heart longing. But through this find your purpose. Your purpose here in this world right now, today, is to get out of your comfort zone with every step. Not one step back.
With every rep, every mile driven, every race finished, I'm becoming the person I always dreamed I would someday be. I'm writing this currently to further convince myself I am on the right path. I know I am, at a core level, but it's very important to keep sight of the end goal.
We as boys have the chance to evolve to be men, through pain, suffering, and hard work. It's not all rainbows and butterflys. It's sweat, heartbreak, bullshit, and plowing through the unknown. Embrace it. Be 'that guy'. Be the man you envision yourself being.
Today, take action. Push out one more rep, one more set. Push your lap time one tenth of a second further. Book one more trip to go on. If you fail, you fail. Do it again and again and you won't fail.
Don't get comfortable.
