Every time I see something where the father left and is some "asshole" per the word of the child, I question the fuck out of it.

There was one post on legaladvice, where the dad was "mean" because he moved out and divorced the mom who was "Bipolar, depressed, and a fucking hoarder". I guarantee you if it were reversed the story would be "my mom JUST couldn't take it anymore with my dad, she tried, but his disease was too much!" Women initiate most divorces, but nobody wants to accept that maybe the wife isn't trying to make things work.

there is an entire chapter in no more mr nice guy on this. but the basic premise boils down to too many little boys growing up with the mindset of what they will never be, (based on a one-sided description) instead of growing up with the idea of what they want to mirror.

I had a drinking buddy that sort of became a friendship, but something was wrong underneath that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

His father was an ordinary masculine man who struck me as Red Pill in his outlook. I liked his dad.

But my friend would describe him as a kind of "monster" while at the same time my friend would demonstrate White Knight traits.

The story is typical... divorce... distance... then Feminism turns the boy against his father.

Sad, I don't see the friend anymore, but he had some good qualities.

During my formative years my dad, grandpa, and his brothers were all guys who were always doing shit. Building stuff, fixing things...manly stuff. On the weekends when the family would get together the women were inside doing girly shit and cooking while the men were outside bullshitting and drinking beer. Not getting sloppy drunk, just hanging around being men.

There were two men who were sort of looked down at by the others. One, my grandmothers brother who would stay inside and hang around the women. The other, the husband to my aunt everyone loved but he was constantly allowing her to henpeck the shit out of him.

So I grew up with a lot of positive male energy and some of my fondest memories are of just being around those guys and soaking it all in.

I try to pass these traits on to my son and we talk about all of the stupid PC feminist bull shit he has to deal with in college. I feel bad for those boys who had to grow up without dads, raised by their mothers but I'm only one man and have my son and a teenage daughter I'm constantly battling all the social media SJW crap from trying to seep its way into her brain.

Mother’s not going to tell you that she’s frigid. She’s freezing Dad out on the nights when he comes home hot and panting. She’s not going to tell you this, see.

So she is, from the time you are a kid, understand, giving you a certain set of values which in reality is a woman’s set of values. She is brainwashing you to the extent of how to treat a woman. She is not teaching you how to be a man. In fact she actually keeps Dad pushed off in a corner away from you so you cannot really get a man’s perspective on it. You can’t really be taught what a man thinks about what Mom has to say.

My father sacrificed too much for my mother and now that he's retired due to injury I'm seeing my mother lose respect for him (and she's not stupid). Still, I hope I can be half the man my father was.

This is a big one, Rollo. All our pain, our training, narcissism and neurosis (aka the ego) is shaped by the environment created by our parents. The brain is like a sponge and will absorb everything as it grows up. Our parents' presence and influence is to blame for the way we are and more specifically, the absence of that influence is just as damaging.

One of your posts in the sidebar, Rollo, is "Women in love" which talks about how "women are incapable of loving a man the way he expects to be loved". Whilst you are not incorrect in the meaning of what you write, the core of it - our expectations - have extended from our mothers treatment of us, just as women's expectations extended from their father's treatment of them.

However the way that is phrased is a big giveaway to the victim like state that is the neurotic "nice guy" today. That sentence should read "Men have unrealistic expectations of how he expects to be loved by women".

He expects her to love him like his mother would where in actual fact he needs to learn to create an equal partnership.

I had something of the exact opposite experience when my parents split. Granted i was in my mid to late teens at the time and was observant enough to watch as my parents relationship disintegrated while understanding a lot of what was going on.

I am still very close to my dad and i am on cordial terms with my mom but i never really bought into the "dad is an asshole" bit. Not really sure why but idk shit happens weird i guess.

There's never one good parent and one bad parent. The "good" parent chose the other parent from all the possible mates in the whole world. Both must take responsibility, both are bad.

Parents will use their kids to fight with each other sometimes, especially in divorces. In my experience it usually is the woman being so petty and unagreeable, when it is the father it is usually the new wife motivating this. My mother would constantly slander my father, she was genuinely jealous of his relationship with his kids.

I was adopted, and I've never met my parents.

My biological Mother left and never came back. No one knows where she is. She was abusive and an alcoholic.

My biological father was never abusive, but wasn't a very good father at the time. He did nothing to stop my mother.

Now he's become more successful, and is a decent father to his current family.

Still everyone except my grandfather and I talk about the situation as the my father was the bad guy, and it was good of my mother to have left.

My sister especially sides with my biological mother strongly, despite not knowing anything about her.

Of course I arrive to do better than my father, bit its ponderous as to why people would side with the mother despite all the evidence.

I always thought of this as a troubling paradox for many young men to deal with:

1) If you feel your father was a good father, you'll try and emulate him. His energy will become your energy. But you realize that just because your father was a good one doesn't mean he was a happy or satisfied one. Many men are great at hiding their depression and fathers are the best actors in this category in my opinion.

2) Your father was non-existent, passive, or abusive, you want to try and beat his terrible legacy. You go into fatherhood saying, "I'm not going to be like that asshole". Unfortunately you never realized that your father was also human and there were probably fairly good reasons(legal or social) for him not being there.

Of course this is all a bullshit system, you just have to be smart enough to realize that in either scenario you will be unhappy 90%+ of the time. It's a situation where you can't win and for those that try and outdo their fathers will often fall short or fail. Just. Don't. Marry.
