From what I've read lately, its actually better to face any potential 'triggers' by instead developing coping mechanisms for them and going through cognitive behavioral therapy to analyze the root causes, because you simply can't plan to avoid every single trigger. It can be from words to even smells. So the best strategy is not avoidance but to slowly face the cause of the problems.

And unless you have fucking PTSD, you're not getting triggers. You're just being a special snowflake.

Hey, here's some news. You'll never be free of emotional distress! There will always be sadness and turmoil in the world. It's not the prof's job to protect you from your feelings.

Christ, soon enough, "trigger warning" will be the trigger! This is more Orwellian thought police stuff. It's only a matter of time before some prof gets sued for not saying "trigger warning" or something equally ludicrous. The "feelings trumps freedom" movement marches ever onwards.

Who thought this was a good idea?

In my 300 lvl Modern Japanese history class we watched a documentary including scenes of live humans whose bodies were ravaged by nuclear radiation. It was a terrible thing to see, but to shield students from seeing the true and raw consequences of nuclear war is counterproductive.

Would trigger warnings be used in this case as well?

Let it further be resolved that: AS Senate urges the instructor of any course that includes triggering content to not dock points from a student’s overall grade for being absent or leaving class early if the reason for the absence is the triggering content.

i don't agree with the idea that you can just skip class if the lecture is going to cover objectionable or disturbing material, but it's mostly sensible to say you shouldn't punish people academically for needing to cut out early if something is so shocking.

My response to this pure assholery is to become completely filterless. The Marlboro Red of conversationalists. If someone is awkwardly avoiding making eye contact, I ask them why. If some huge argument just happened, I ask about it rather than avoiding it. If there is obvious hypocrisy going on and everyone is dodging it, I point it out.

I am become a Trigger. People respond really well to this. Everyone is secretly miserable with the atmosphere if Permanent Lying. Give someone an interesting conversation unlike any they've had in a year and they will run to talk to you. This is why the Red Pill is growing.
