TL;DR Spent the evening out with a minor celeb who dates a major celeb. Job offers and pussy fly my way.

So, this is a pretty fascinating story in its full detail, but I'll share the outlined version to give you a feel.

This takes place in New York City.

I recently got a new temporary roommate. Let's call him Jim. He actually lives in the neighborhood, but for complicated reasons his apartment was unavailable to him and he responded to an ad to be a temporary roommate at mine.

This guy is really cool. About my age, mid-30s. Works in film, like me. I find out after a day that he has been dating a huge movie star until recently. I can't give more specifying information, but I guarantee that each and everyone one of you has heard of her and seen her in some movie.

From a RP perspective, I'm like damn! this guy must really have it going on. I want to learn about him.

This post isn't about him, but let's just say I learned that he has the IDGAF to end all IDGAF attitudes. He treated his movie star gf like any other annoying bitch when she starts to get needy with him. He's open and honest with girls about what he wants; not monogamy. In the last 2 nights, he brought two girls over to my place and had a threesome, and then last night brought a different girl over. He's skinny but tall and confident as fuck.

Now, last night, I went out with him and my FR is about social proof and how I benefited by being his new bff.

We start at an art gallery where his movie star gf also makes an appearance. Jim is introducing eveybody to everybody. He introduces me to some friends of his who also work in film. I act cool, talk about what I do. When I look up some of their names later, I find out these were some major players in the film world. Luckily, I wasn't intimidated to meet them as I didn't know who they were. But it also helped that I came as Jim's friend. And Jim was clearly the top/most-connected man, so other people were already honored to meet me because Jim introduced me with kind words, and that was worth major social proof. I would basically say that a good word from Jim would probably be enough for someone to hire me for $1k/day without even seeing my work. Obviously, Jim has in some way vetted me that I'm a good dude to know and work with. But that's the way social proof goes. One good word from the right guy is worth 10x more than a thick résumé.

Next we go to another party. Kinda lame, we had one drink and left.

Then we went to a second party. Lots of young girls. One of the girls he had the threesome with the night before is there by coincidence. He thinks she's embarrassed and goes to put her at ease. I actually kinda tease her when I meet her because I hadn't actually met her before but she was fucking in my house the night before. I would definitely be awkward about saying something in most contexts, but just being around Mr. Social Proof, I find it easier to say anything and come across as charming. Because social proof helps me feel like I'm the big man of the room, beyond the fact that girls sense it to based on who I walked in with.

After that, we go to a 3rd party at one of the most exclusive spots in New York. It's a place I would never imagine going on my own. Frankly, I didn't know it existed. But here I am, coming in with a crew of Jim, his other friend a venture capitalist, and Jim's 25 year-old new conquest.

The room is full of hot girls and rich guys. I feel in command because I also know that the girls who are seeking out the rich guys are also kinda numbed by the fact that most of these rich guys are probably beta. Whoring yourself out to a rich beta makes you just feel like a whore. Whoring yourself out to a rich alpha makes you feel like a princess...a liberated princess, free to be a whore. So I can totally tell even though ALL these guys are rich, the girls are still looking for someone who's a boss in all aspects of his character.

I end up in a conversation with the venture capitalist and two Czech girls. The VC guy is going on about his money and he's being direct and flirty with the girls, which I can tell they appreciate but they think he's trying too hard. I, on the other hand, tease the girl over this town I once visited in the Czech Republic that was really dirty and industrial. And I tell her a story of when I went to the zoo there. The zoo was so cheap the orangutang was able to reach over the cage and I tell her how I grabbed the orangutang's hand. True story btw. She was laughing a ton and I was getting lots of extra eye contact.

Anyway, the conversation ends and the girls say they have to go. 30 seconds later, not the pretty girl who contacted me but the less pretty one comes over to me. She tells me that the pretty girl would like to have my number. Could I give it to her?

We theorized that the pretty girl was probably some aristocrat or rich man's daughter. After all, what is an early 20's Czech girl with mediocre English skills doing at one of the most exclusive bars in NYC. Probably looking for a husband, sent by her family who wants her to exceed Czech standards. Just my theory.

In any case, I was flattered, but my reaction was "Bad news!" because I think this girl might be too searching for BB. Although, clearly, she preferred me, with 5 figures in the bank, over the venture capitalist with literally hundreds of millions.

Next, I end up chatting with a wall-approaching girl. We're having this close conversation, close enough to feel each other's breath cause it's so loud there She's pretty heavily IOI. At one point she asks if I remember her name and I laugh and I say I have no idea! She gets all insulted. But I don't care. I was like 8 drinks in and she told me her name an hour ago and I don't remember cause I was probably thinking about whether the Czech princess was going to call.

She and I leave together. I offer a cab to my place. She comes halfway then gets dropped off and tells me, "If you want to meet again, ask your friends for my number."

I kinda don't feel like it. Don't want to do the chasing with a girl approaching the wall. She probably just has been through all of her fun years and is looking to settle down with a guy who will stick around. Sure enough, my friend Jim later tells me that this girl used to date Jim Carrey.

So, that's it. Didn't take anyone home, but here's what one night out with stratospheric social proof got me:

  • Possible job connections with industry leaders

  • Going to a party tonight with a photographer from Vogue magazine who also wants to work with me

  • Some Czech aristocrat has my number, having chosen my attitude over a multimillionaire

  • Jim Carrey's ex wants me to come find her

Do not underestimate social proof. But also do not imagine social proof can work alone. If I wasn't already a good filmmaker, this guy would not have been impressed by me. If I didn't already have good social skills, he would not have felt comfortable introducing me to people. If I was 80 pounds overweight and greasy and poorly dressed, girls wouldn't care who introduced me, I'd be a creep.

And yet, social proof got me in as a high-status man in a world I previously had no connection to.

It's an ongoing thing. Now I have to get dressed nicely to go to this Vogue photographer's party, where I will be friends with him, the host, and go on to another socially proofed night out.

UPDATE: Jim Carrey's ex managed to seek out my number and texted me. Given that, I may elect to go out with her.
