I have never been the most prolific guy, socially speaking. I've always been shy and insecure. where this got me: as far as work is concerned, I've always been a good employee, I have a good university degree, and I consider myself above average at what I do. Problem is, even with those traits I was never able to up in the ranks of the companies I worked at. My main problem is that I can never get along with bosses and coworkers(not in the sense that they hate me or anything like that, but could never make friends or get closer to them. I've always been that quiet guy that just wants to do his work). This recent comment by /u/procyon112 really hits home:

Social dynamics beats hard work any day. It is better to have drinks with the boss than stay late at the office. Hard work gets little respect. Politics is the only thing that matters. The popular kids in high school were right all along.

This is exactly what happened to me during my entire career and is why I'm here. I wanted to ask you guys some tips on how to bond with coworkers, how to get closer to them or even make friends with them, specially bosses. I'm not too shy or insecure anymore, but grew to become pretty much uninterested in most people I meet in life but I realize this part is what I'm missing to go up in my career. I'm tired of being the hard worker who never gets promoted while the bosses' stupid friends keep getting ahead of me.

I would appreciate any kind of criticism or tips you may have for me. I've been lurking here for months and the content here is top class.

Thanks, you guys are fucking awesome.

p.s. Sorry about my english, I'm not a native speaker.
