Smiling is still an essential part of game. However, if you listen to women about what facial expression generally turns them on the most, it is much more likely to be a smirk (an expression of pride/confidence). This study seems to go along with that.

From real life experience, the conclusion of the study sounds generally on point. Maybe replace shame with brooding...

Smiling is often a social appeasement strategy, i.e. that of a supplicating beta who wants to appear nonthreatening. Being proud is alpha. Where's the big shocker? Seems on point to me.

I was at a female friends party, and there was more women than men.

The night before I had been out with an air hostess that I had blown it with, and ended up getting very drunk. I was feeling and looking miserable, terribly hungover and spent most of the evening trying to sit on the corner, get high and be grumpy. The women were all fawning over me, trying to find out why I looked so grumpy. So much so (it was a Halloween party, she insisted I wear the hat from her costume and had put a price tag on me from a glass and said she had tagged me as hers) one of the women's boyfriend pulled her up about it and stormed out.

At the end of the night, a women that had at one point said "wow, you looking miserable" came up to me, sits on my knee, starts slowly rubbing herself up my leg and said "I was joking before, I think you're hot. Will you come home with me?"

I was not in the mood and turned her down. I asked my friend the next day about getting her number, turned out she was married >.<

very suprising.

core of game is to be fun and entertaining. on the other hand, i have noticed that the super feminine bitches (those hot chicks who dress uberslutty and just wanna get banged) do not respond that well to the funny&smiling guys, but rather the serious badass tattooed motherfucker.

however, one explanation might be that the "smile" in those pictures looks seriously faked like a beta-smiler (like mentioned in the comments : an appeasement smile) , not an honest smile from a fun&entertaining situation.

Shame? This is strange because I've been led to believe women are attracted to higher social status, while shame usually indicates the opposite.

Maybe they interpret the smile in that "happiness" picture as coyness, and the "shame" as "thoughtful brooding"?

This is weird. I can sort of confirm it, I am grumpy and asocial and quite often openly tell people to fuck off and leave me alone and sometimes it awakens interest in women. But I have no idea if it is motherly interest or sexual interest. After all when I tell people to fuck off I mean it.
