Take dance classes. The average cost is $15-20 per class. Find people to practice with. After a few months, at the very least, you will feel less-self conscious about dancing. Dancing is about having fun and letting go. It can also be about perfection of the self, and learning to control your body as well as your partners body.

One of the problems with dancing in clubs these days is that it derives from the break-away of the lindy-hop, where the two partners would split off and improvise their own thing. Most people think that when you dance you can just do whatever . . . which works fine if you know what you're doing, but if you don't you worry that people will laugh at you for looking ridiculous, which many will. This can actually affect your reputation even if you don't care what other people think.

For people with no concept of dancing or musicality, modern dance is a fucking nightmare. I'm still not comfortable doing the solo routine where I dance by myself. Why? Because I haven't yet studied the problem sufficiently. I'm at the phase where I can fake it pretty well because I've gotten competent at one partner dance and because I know a few other dance moves and concepts.

I can tell you this, though. Everything starts with moving to the beat, specifically, stepping with the beat. Once you learn to do that competently, you can work on other things. You can start with something as simple as shifting weight from one foot to the other with the beat, and then proceed from there.

Also, Youtube has lots of dance instruction videos.

Edit: the nice thing about dance class is that everyone is there to learn, so it's about solving a mutual problem and not worrying if you look awkward.

Take dance classes and take martial arts classes and learn a very technical sport like fencing or skiing. Dancing is about leading an interaction in a physical way and there is massive crossover with combat and sports. The basic breakdown is

lead with a movement
feel your partner for feedback
adjust your lead and start again

It helps to ask your partner to resist your movements a bit so you feel them better

Some girls resist way too much or will try to lead too. Break that tendency by gently increasing pressure until you lead again or "reset" the dynamic by picking them up or twirling a lot

Most girls are actually bad dancers and won't know the difference anyway

Remember to have good posture and Smile! This is where overconfidence will help you a lot

You'll have so much more fun at bars/clubs if you learn to enjoy dancing than getting really drunk to get over the anxiety. It also all plays into classic rp philosophy, like establishing space.

The biggest issue is microexpressions on your face. Do a little dance and think of the expression your face your pulling, you don't want to do that! So many people in the club look demented because of their facial expression, it almost looks painful.

Keep your face neutral and aware, like it's ready to engage in talking, looking or dancing with others in your group. You can dance really low-key or do really stupid moves, if you keep your face neutral, people will think your funny if your dancing crazy or just cool if your not.

As for dancing itself, it's so fucking easy, you just move to the rhythm. At the club, don't wait until you get on the dancefloor or some girl to drag you off to start dancing. Start tapping your feet at the bar or clicking your fingers to yourself to get in rhythm. You'll realise that no one is judging you for it. I like making really ostentatious dance moves off the dance floor and at the bar, it gets me in the mood, establishes space and relaxes my friends.

Practice at home, I'm sure you'll see you can dance. Everyone can dance, sure they may not be able to do technical moves but honestly, it doesn't matter. Personally I dance really stupid, making up the most ridiculous moves as possible and trying to play them off as cool. This has a good effect on people outside your group, I often start dancing with different groups of people because you aren't trying to be superbadass. Women also like to dance with men who are not trying to outdance them. Just having fun, that's what it's all about.

But remember, when you do try a weird dance move, don't let a little ignorant smile go over your face, that is what kills it. This is the kind of face you have to avoid pulling. You'll see that nearly everyone pulls it when they are starting to be adventurous with their moves. This girl probably looks quite normal around the office. Also these kinds of faces often go hand in hand with too much head nodding. People nod their heads way too much in general, also remember don't squint when nodding.

Also avoid doing dancing that is overly sexual unless it's a joke, like you grinding woman your acquainted with. Woman love to trap you by dancing somewhat sexual, then dancing closer and closer, grabbing your hand but as soon as you reciprocate, they pretend they've been sexually assaulted. Don't fall for this! Don't give up your ground though either until they are literally straddling you. I'd honestly keep away from that shit too, these types of women are often trying to get one guy in front and one guy behind. Last time I went out, this one lady was basically using the side of my leg as a wankpost while I danced with three other women. I let her but I didn't pay her any attention other than that.

Just remember, have fun. Make it fun for others and careful of being tricked into any sexual assault traps. 90% of it is in the facial expression. Keep it deadpan.

Hey, I can dance, but I don't dance at clubs if I can avoid it. I never get anywhere with girls on the dance floor. Oh, and dancing WITH GIRLS in a club usually just means standing there so she has somebody to grind against. It's not actual dancing (unless you're at a salsa club). Just say'n.

If you want to learn how to really dance, start with East Coast Swing lessons. It's like training wheels for real dancing.
