I have always been interested in the connotation of words within languages. Today I told some chick on tinder I was broke simply because I didn't want to explain why I am living with my parents while I look for a job. However, and this is beside the point, the reason I said it was more of a fuck you for asking. I know she won't be responding and I don't want her to. Back to the main point: It got me thinking about the phrase "I'm broke".

How many times have you heard this? When you're in high school or even college its known that you aren't making much money and everyone is in the same stage so its funny to say the phrase.

As an adult the phrase becomes different. For a male who should be working and saving it is literally a phrase that means you are not FUNCTIONING correctly. Saying this is saying you are a broken person. You are calling yourself out and scaring everyone away. People will judge you as if being broke was/is part of your character.

For a woman to say "I'm broke" it is not taken as seriously. It is more of a situational thing; an unfortunate circumstance has lead her to this current condition of not having money. She is not broken, she just needs some support. It is a cry for help and if she is physically attractive at all, like a 7 on a good day, I guarantee she will get the help she needs from some chump.

A man saying he is broke will be on his last dime, defeated and miserable. A woman saying she is broke will be in line at Starbucks saying it with a smile and a hair flip to the chubby guy behind her, hoping to get that mocha-frap for free.

Anyway, this is just a rant but to sum it up society is NOT equal, if you are male you either have money or you are judged for being broken. The same rules do not apply for a woman.
