Given the recent events surround asktrp, figured I'd make a quick post about this, especially for those who are less tech savvy.

There's a common saying within the privacy/open source community: "Think free as in free speech, not free beer"

Reddit is free as in free beer. It doesn't cost us anything to log on to this site and use it. But Reddit is owned by a company. There is only one Reddit instance owned by the company, and that's all there will ever be. You don't like it? Too bad you can't just up and go make your own Reddit (at least not a one to one copy). In other words, Reddit is centralized.

Take ThePirateBay as a counter example. It's been around forever right? Even with all the legal crap and controversy it's managed to stay afloat, although its moved around a lot. That's because it's decentralized. Anyone can go and create their own instance of TPB. You take one instance down, 10 more pop up. TPB is free as in free speech.

For the future of the TRP, the platform we exist on needs to be decentralized. We can't have companies or rogue admins controlling and dictating what can and can't be said.
