I wrote this after meeting one of /u/tokyo_pickup's (a former EC and an in/famous dating coach here in Tokyo) asian students, a Taiwanese-American from California. This student later messaged me to ask if I thought there was anything particularly different about game for Asian guys in Japan. (FYI, I am Japanese-American)

At the time, I just told him, "No, the strategy is the same for everyone. Lift weights, dress well, and be horny."

I still stand behind that answer, but there is a reason why doing so is more important for anyone who can pass as a local than it is for an obvious foreigner. Upon reflection, I feel kinda bad for giving the dude such a simple answer, so I'm gonna make up for it by explaining myself here.

In a nutshell, Japanese girls spend their whole lives sorting and classifying Japanese dudes. They're experts at it. They do it so often that, if you look Japanese, they can likely size you up from a quick glance the same way that master chess players can size up a chess board. It's hard to game someone who has filed you into the chump folder from across the room. Obvious foreigners can get a pass in this regard because their looks are somewhat alien.

(Although, in first-world Asia, the foreigner pass is quickly disappearing.)

I believe this phenomenon isn't limited to Japan either. The more you physically resemble the local chumps, the more important it is for you to be on point with your looks. This is obviously more important in areas with a lot of ethnic/cultural homogeneity than in areas with a lot of diversity. But even in areas with significant diversity, it is fairly easy to recognize the look of a local chump.

And if you can't recognize what your local chump looks like, you probably are one.
