There's a trap here easy to fall for.
Good LTR should not require hard work, yes. But you yourself do require hard work. One should never mix up working "on a relationship" with working on yourself to become not only best self, but also able to even form a lasting LTR.
Because I've seen bluepills failing to grasp what LTR even is and how it works (myself included), who probably should've read NMMNG in high school as required literature.
And I've seen redpills failing to discern LTR from spinning a single plate and either getting oneitis or overdreading and destroyin the relationship. Usually both.

Agreed, if you are alpha enough (due to your hard work on yourself), then the LTR should be easy, if it is not easy, it is her fault and she needs a hard next.
[–]wallpunchist 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My favourite paraphrase on that: "if you don't lead your relationship, she will try control it".

You should always be working hard, I don't think OP said anything negating that in his post. Like you said the difference is you should work hard on yourself.
Treat your time/energy like an investment. Investing in your finances, your body, your habits/skills yield great returns. Investing in an LTR yields terrible returns, especially since you can get a good/easy LTR as a by-product of investing in yourself.

This was me in my last relationship. I overdreaded her in the beginning (due in part to her being quite insecure) and ended up getting oneitis and her leaving me. Ever since I swallowed the Red Pill, I've found it harder to bring out the beta in me... if that makes sense.

NMMNG? Nu male..? What? I've been off this sub too long

I had a 9 year LTR with a solid 8. What I learned:
Sex is a good indicator of your relationship health. When sex seems forced things are starting going downhill.
Don't display weak emotions - insecurities, indecision, excessive jealousy. It's ok to show that you like her. The secret is showing you WANT her not that you NEED her.
Never stop going out with your friends. One major mistake I see many guys doing is stop going out with your friends as soon you have a girlfriend. This is a huge mistake on many levels. First you lose your friends, second a social guy is very attractive and third you'll be even more needy!
If you've an attractive girlfriend many guys will hit on her. Just deal with it it's life and many of these guys will be attractive.
Never stop working in yourself! This accomplish two things: You'll be attractive for her and you'll be ready if your LTR collapses.

Can attest to all these, many people break these rules because they see an LTR as refuge, a safe space in which to show weakness. Prime example of this is guys who get a girl and stop working out "because I don't need to anymore".
The trickiest part is probably managing time away from her, and her time away from you. If she is cool with you going out with your friends regularly, 9/10 she is just spinning you as a plate unless she is well below you in SMV (in which case, get a better girl).

If she is cool with you going out with your friends regularly
Agree! The irony is she'll bitch about it then you try to compensate and start doing more stuff for her and spending more time with her. Then you get dumped!
I think all guys will make this mistake at least once in their lifetime. Some will figure out what went wrong other ones will repeat the mistake over and over.

I would second this, but also add don't commit too early until you've done some very good vetting. I was once in an LTR with this being the defining requirement. It should be easy. And it was. No fights no worries. Then one day she says she's going to a concert, and did I want to go. I didn't care for the band, she came out of the room wearing a corset. Now at this point she was already rooming with me. I didn't get angry, I told her to have fun. I ended the relationship that weekend. Had I vetted better before such a large commitment I could have saved us both trouble. This was completely my fault. You can't make a ho a housewife.
I didn't want an LTR with a skank who would go out without me in her underwear. Some red flags tell the whole story.

Good on you for the immediate next. That is some alpha shit. You should never accept bad behaviour, that makes a relationship hard and unpleasant. A blue pill guy would have just nodded and agreed when she came home two days later and said "I met this cool guy but we just talked all night".

I never touched her again, and ended it amicably told her it was for "religious reasons." Lol she still punched a hole in my wall. Nothing a little patch won't do.
[–]BreathOfDick 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Religious reasons you glorious bastard.
[–]okiedokie321 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I would have plated her, but eh sounds like cutting ties is more efficient with less bullshit
[–]TyrannyVengeance 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've found that when they have lived with you it becomes harder to plate in a healthy way. I did sleep with her a couple of times after that, but then she befriended my crazy ex, and I could smell where that was going.

A happy LTR doesnt need much - abundance mentality and IDGAF attitude used in a proper way. I was in some LTRs which I remember as good and easy. All I really did was fucking them rough and being able to walk away at any moment and they loved it. They cooked, cleaned, didn't bitch when I was going out with my friends. Not that I treated them wrong(only sometimes),just had my own life and having a chance to take part in it was their reward for being good to me.

Best LTR I had lasted 9 months, which is about as long as they ever did. Never shit tested, or if I was I passed them all without noticing. Distance took its toll eventually - had it not something else would have.
It was both easy and healthy, and lasted as long as it was meant to. This is the mindset I had when I entered and left it, and the one that allowed it to blossom into what it became.
I grant commitment in exchange for ease in companionship - I am upfront about what I am and make it clear that this is what they're getting - if they want something else, they're welcome to leave.

I think this is a very important point. Every relationship has a time span. The relationship will end no matter how much effort you do or don't put in.

Not terribly useful advice. If you quit when the going gets hard, then every LTR you've ever been in will have been easy.
So, most people reading will still wonder, how do you make it easy? How do you determine who would be easy in a LTR? What variables are at play?
You've got a good introduction, but it's devoid of usable information.

I have made a previous post on LTRs about old school rules I implemented. My point here is that my LTRs have been overall pleasant and not diffcult at all. Whatever small problems arose during the LTRs were just that, small problems which did not detract from the fun and warm nature of the relationship. Everyone argues but so long as the arguments are only happening a very small percentage of the time then it should not threaten the relationship. Also with any adversity you face then you face them together, not apart. If you are dealing with issues as a team, rather than one person having to deal with ongoing and significant problems with the other then adversity strengthens the relationship, not threatens it.
I do not mean for anyone to cut and run at the first difficult issue that comes up. People should look at the overall state of their relationship and make an assessment. Am I 85% or more satisfied that this is a great relationship and that I am happy? If the answer is yes then that would mean the relationship is "easy". I am trying to point to the overall state of the relationship.
If anyone wants to know what I recommend for a happy LTR my post was titled "My old school and controversial rules for an LTR". If anyone would like me to expand on this post then I can do that in a future post on LTRs. If you look at that post you will see that my "rules" are not hard or complicated. It is set and forget. The rules are simple, she does as she is told, has no male friends, and does not go out drinking without you. ABC.

You're on a good path, but we need a little more meat. Practical advice. I suggest you flesh out the idea a little more and repost.

I will give it more thought and post something with more detailed content.
I posted my essay to mixed reviews. I would love your input if you have time to read it.

Don't ask for an easier world, but for stronger shoulders to hold it.
Theres a nuance, if you're on point, it's easy, but like anything, no one notices the work it takes to make life easy.

I agree 100%. I am very trigger happy to end any sort of relationship if it gets hard

Any advice for texting/online communication in an LTR?
I'm away for 2 weeks because of the university holidays, but I'm finding it hard to gauge when/how often to text or call her. I'm usually a radio silence type of guy but I'm fairly new to the whole LTR business. Cheers.
[–]88Will88 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you use text and video calls to maintain the usual level of communication and comfort that you have inside the relationship. My current girl and I were forced to be apart for several weeks per month over the last few months. We texted constantly and spoke whenever we had the chance. We have a close and warm relationship so to do anything else would have been weird. We chat a lot because we like to and that is the nature of our relationship. So do not be afraid that you are being needy so long as she is contacting you at least as often as you are contacting her. Noone ever said that an alpha cannot be a great and warm friend to his SO.
