The way he talks about the recent scandal with "Five Guys Burgers and Fries" girl is much like talking about Watergate in the context of a bunch of dudes trying to break-in to a building.

As I mentioned in another thread, the scary thing about "Burgers and Fries" girl is not that she's unattractive, or that she wrote a horrible game, or that she fucked a bunch of men under-the-table to get publicity, or even that these influential men were willing to fuck such an unattractive woman. The scary thing is that the whole internet seems to be censoring the story because it doesn't fit the feminist narrative.

If you look at recent IGDA surveys, 80+% of all jobs in the industry are held by men. This is a problem, particularly as industry surveys say that a majority of gamers are women. To be sure, they're playing Candy Crush and not Call of Duty, and maybe that doesn't qualify as a "real game" to you, but if so, fuck off. Games are games, games are good, and it's great that more people are playing them. Stop masturbating with your console controller and get a life.

80+% of men are willing to do whatever it takes to do the gruelling horrific job which is corporate programming. They are willing to work 50, 60, 70, 80+ hours a week to make sure the game ships within the due date. Many women are unwilling to do that, so the companies are more likely to hire a worker which does.

This is all my fault!

It is, really.

For years, I've developed video games. Well, that is a gross overstatement. I'm certainly not a commercial developer, I'm not even the best programmer ever. But my humble beginnings as an Amstrad CPC user, followed by the Commodore Amiga, I got into making simple games. Most were space invader clones or puzzle games. Anything with low graphic but moderate logic to them.

I was one of those types that would spend a few hours pouring over some printed assembler code, rejigging code here and there, making new subs and macros trying to save a few CPU cycles, etc. This was in the days before OOP was really the mainstay of most development. The free C++ compiler on the Amiga was crap quite frankly. And it was relatively new to me anyway. Thus, I largely worked in Blitz Basic and 68k Assembler.

I kept this hobby up using Java and C++ when I got into my Windows platforms. I've made a few interactive demos I suppose is the safest thing to call them. After my breakup earlier this year, I decided that I wouldn't mind having a proper dive into video games production or maybe even approaching some gaming companies. I have a path, some Direct 3d demos I've knocked together for concepts, downloaded the UDK to start getting to grips with it, etc. Babysteps, I assure you, but I'm on the path nonetheless. My idea was to start seriously looking at going toward that industry once I'd actually produced something worth talking about instead of blowing smoke which, admittedly, is what my current portfolio amounts to.

And now this. Yep, when I finally decide to actually do something about it for real, make active inroads into it, something comes along and breaks it before I get half way there. Fuck sake! Yep, I am this typically unlucky! I'll start aiming towards something and a big fuck-off missile will come along and torpedo the living fucksies out of it.
