This article is a gross misrepresentation of PMDD, and we should avoid using it for the basis of our opinions on PMDD.

PMDD is considered to be extreme symptoms of PMS. Most women will have PMS, very few will have PMDD.

It is when PMS is so severe that it is essentially ruining the woman's life. She cant make it to work or school because the pain is so bad, her relationships with family suffer because she can't fulfill her duties.

This is obviously a lot different than just the standard PMS. The absolute KEY thing to remember is that for it to be a disorder it must be causing significant distress or impairment in the person's life. That part is often missing from media and laypersons' accounts of mental ilness

An easy analogy is for that of another mental illness like anxiety. Most people worry about some things. Very few worry to such an extent that it is having a disastrous effect on their life. The former is normal, the latter is pathological.

Removing more responsibility for their behavior by giving it a term and labeling it a medical disorder. I have a friend who lets his girlfriend get out of control, openly bitch and berate him around company and sometimes gets violent. I tell him he needs to put his foot down and confront her but the moron just says, "Oh, no, it's ok, bro. She's just bipolar. It just happens sometimes, she'll be fine soon."

My friend is the United States of America.

Women are mentally unstable because most of them are profoundly affected by every emotional whim that comes their way. You get the odd grounded woman, but most are flighty and all over the place. Some women are really bad. Women all fall on a crazy spectrum. Say you get a minimum 3 out of 10 crazy, so generally illogical/bullshitty/neurotic a few days per month, then you get the 10's who are constantly rewriting history/narratives and shouldn't be allowed to interact with the rest of civilized society. Nothing new here, just women being women. As for the article, I'm not going to read it, however I suspect they'll spin it in one of two ways:

Aww, poor things are victims, we should all support them by showering them with attention and money
These women are being oppressed by the psychiatric industry who are medicalising a perfectly normal part of womanhood. Clearly there are a lot of misogynistic psychologists and shrinks. #psychologygate

The birth control pill makes already crazy women even crazier. If you have an LTR who gets hormonally crazy - get her off the pill.
