Seeing how TRP values physical fitness, I thought I would post a guide on mental fitness.
Nootropic definition: ˌnōəˈträpik/ : (of a drug) used to enhance memory or other cognitive functions.
These drugs are used medically to treat cognitive or motor function difficulties as seen in disorders as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and ADHD, however their use has been shown to be able to prevent these diseases as well.
Users report better memory, focus, and cognition. Many also see an increase in verbal fluency ie; words just flow naturally. For a certain percentage of users, there is also a boost in mood, and a sense of stability. Despite this, nootropics are not considered to be psychoactive nor recreational.
They are known for their very high LD50's and their lack of side effects.
Some popular categories of nootropics are: Stimulants Nutraceuticals Racetams
Stimulants are what most people would be familiar with: Caffiene, ADD meds (Adderall, Dextroamphetamine, and Lisdexamfetamine) Popular OTC stimulant nootropics are Armodafinil and Modafinil
Nutraceuticals have cognitive effects, but are not stimulants. They are often weaker, but are a more natural substitute, and often come in the form of herbal supplements. These include Panax Ginseng, and Ginkgo Biloba (both readily available in health food stores and online)
Racetams are a fairly new form of nootropic, but are a very promising group. Pramiracetam, Oxiracetam, Coluracetam, and Aniracetam are the most taken, and most highly recommended. They are all legal and have proven to be beneficial, even in the long term.
I would highly suggest that anybody interested in reaching their peak physical capacity look into cognitive enhancers such as these. Some great websites to check out are: http://www.longecity.org/forum/ http://nootriment.com/what-are-nootropics/
