This is The Red Pill not a sub dedicated to diets. Do your own research, get your own opinions, and do as you see best. This is Asktrp if anything: not content for this sub.
My 0.02 though; Veganism isn't really the way to go. You limit way too much of your diet - and it isn't really that healthy. If you look at the number of infant deaths due to veganism you'll see how the body isn't designed for the Vegan diet.

some uninformed parents are nothing compared to the millions of people who die every year because of animal products related diseases like diabetes cancer osteoporosis and cardiac attacks

It's not meat, it's what is done to the mainstream meat that's killing them. The GMO feed (grown with pesticides), the hormone injections, and preservatives, added artificial sugars, excess salts, chemical concoctions in fast food, etc. One thing the Paleo diet AKA caveman diet doesnt mention is that our ancestors food before (~1970?) was organic by default. You can eat all the appropriate food groups but are contaminated with GMOs, pesticides, hormones, and other garbage, then still get the diseases you were trying to avoid.
Anytime a hunter-gatherer tribe transistioned to a western diet, their disease rate sky-rocketed, including diseases that were virtually non-existant. That's the biggest reference you'll ever need for diet. Our 'normal' is artificial. It's a matrix.
[–]RedTenet0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The number of cases where meat eating has been the main reason the disease being contracted is probably negligible at best. A majority of these cases are caused by other dietary problems.

Couldn't you make the argument that a meat-based diet such as keto is even MORE restrictive than veganism?
[–]RedTenet2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'd never endorse Keto either. Or Paleo. The whole idea of these diets is to just put you in a caloric deficit and they do so by restricting the things you eat.
Set diets are not the way to go. Find you macros, eat good carbs, limit sugar. Just do things right - don't restrict an entire food group.

Will you reject or adopt veganism based on the consensus of TRP? TRP is about learning how to be a man, which includes learning to trust yourself and make your own decisions. So regardless what I, or anyone else here, tells you, you should form your own opinion on this topic. Furthermore while TRP is a lifestyle philosophy in a sense, it doesn't include things like what diet you should follow or what car you should buy. It's more of a foundation of principles for how you should conduct yourself in the world, not a detailed manual.
As for my two cents: veganism is the best option to prevent (and in some cases reverse) major chronic diseases. But, just like any diet that is not the standard American diet (or whatever you grew up with), you need to educate yourself and make sure you execute it properly. You seem to know this but you're looking for validation and you're not going to find it since most people (TRPers or not) are biased for omnivorous diets and there's almost a stigma associated with veganism.
What if you're right in speculating that veganism is the optimal diet to prevent disease but instead you heed the advice of the average joe simply because there's many of them saying the same thing (a "consensus")? You'll probably die of a heart attack like most Americans. So back to the principle: make your own decisions.

Life feeds on life. We're part of a billion-year-long line of animals that scraped, clawed, and killed to get to the top of the food chain. Veganism is a rejection of all that your ancestors sacrificed for.
Or more seriously: do what you do bro.
Veganism at its best comes from the empathetic desire to not cause pain to any being, animal or human, who has the capacity to feel pain. Empathy is a normal human emotion, but empathy leads to loss of frame, loss of frame leads to betahood, and betahood leads to cuckoldry. That is the path of the Blue Pill.
One of, if not the most important RP tenet is control of emotions. Veganism is fine if you're worried about the environment, personal health reasons, or if you just like animals. But it's also a magnet for those who allow their emotions to overrule their reason. That's why it's so popular in places where BP runs rampant - it's a emotional response to a reality that they don't want to acknowledge.
Life feeds on life. Always has. Always will.
[–]Rich0510 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
"Empathy leads to loss of frame"
Holy shit this is unreal. Jesus kid I'm sorry for whatever shitty father figure you had in your life that instilled this kind of mindset on to you. I guess this is what happens in a society where men are all raised by single mothers and where trust fund kids like that Bilzerian faggot are put on the highest pedestal. Empathy is one of the primary characteristic of a strong man. Men protect their loved ones and don't inflict pain on to others unnecessarily. Spare us the pseudo philosophical bullshit please. Veganism is a fact and science based way of life. Eating meat is bad for your health, causes unnecessary pain on to other beings and is the primary cause of global warming. Becoming vegan is a completely logical choice for your health and the well being of other sentient beings on this planet, including other humans. Since this is the red pill and that this place is all about taking personal responsibility, this is one area where people in this community would do well to inform themselves on.
And appeal to tradition and evolution isn't an argument for eating meat. Your ancestors, unlike you, had no choice in the matter.
[–]cYcBgJ2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Eating meat ... is the primary cause of global warming
Source? The first source I could find states that
Animal agriculture is responsible for 14–18% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions globally, and less in developed countries (e.g. 6% in the USA). Fossil fuel combustion for energy and transportation is responsible for approximately 60% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions globally, and more in developed countries (e.g. 80% in the USA).
The USA part could be important since you going vegan in the US or some other developed country might not have much of an impact at all. Even less so when eating something other than beef.
Beyond that saying that eating meat is bad for your health or veganism is healthier isn't right either, there is no definitive answer to those questions today. There is strong evidence that excessive meat consumption is unhealthy but the lower you set the level of consumption for anything the harder it gets to prove that it specifically aids / hurts your health. Controlling for the difference between the average consumer and somebody more interested in nutrition is already difficult enough, you want to tell me that comparing somebody who lives mostly vegan to full vegan with similar levels of effort to live healthy has been done?
[–]Rich053 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This PDF does a pretty good job at explaining the greenhouse gas thing: http://www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
Here are the things that weren't taken into account by the previous studies when calculating the impact of animal agriculture in relation to global warming: Livestock respiration, land use, methane release, and more. The 14 to 18% number is what you get without taking these things into account. The thing with methane is that it's 25 to 100 times more destructive than CO2. And deforestation is in great part caused by the animal agriculture industry (need more farms to feed the livestock).
''Controlling for the difference between the average consumer and somebody more interested in nutrition is already difficult enough, you want to tell me that comparing somebody who lives mostly vegan to full vegan with similar levels of effort to live healthy has been done?''
I think it actually has been but this sort of study is very ineffective in uncovering the truth in the matter anyway since there's too many genetic and environmental variations between people so it's almost impossible to isolate this one variable. That's how you end up with a study one year that says wine is good for you and then the next year with one that says wine is complete shit. Want you want is to look at mechanistic studies that measure people's health markers before and after embarking on a specific diet. Studies like this one:` https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4315380/
''The Lifestyle Heart Trial found that 82% of patients diagnosed with heart disease who followed this plant-based diet program had some level of regression of atherosclerosis and 91% had a reduction in the frequency of angina episodes, whereas 53% of the control group, fed the American Heart Association diet, had progression of atherosclerosis.17 In addition, the study showed a reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (37.2%) that is similar to results achieved with lipid-lowering medications. Similarly, other researchers showed that compared with a control group, the plant-based diet group had a 73% decrease in coronary events and a 70% decrease in all-cause mortality.15 In 1998, a collaborative analysis using original data from 5 prospective studies was reviewed and showed that, compared with nonvegetarians, vegetarians had a 24% reduction in ischemic heart disease death rates.''
[–]cYcBgJ0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You claim the lower number is the result of overlooking certain factors yet those factors are specifically listed e.g. in this 2015 report by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. e.g.
Livestock, especially ruminants such as cattle, produce methane (CH4) as part of their normal digestive processes. This process is called enteric fermentation, and it represents almost one third of the emissions from the Agriculture economic sector.
They estimate the entire Agricultural sector to about 9%. I also checked sources from the German environmental institute and they estimate it to be about 7.5% in Germany, including machinery etc. So far I've only seen your estimate that basically states everyone else is overlooking factors. Since I'm not a scientists to judge (you're probably neither) I'd rather stick with what seems to be scientific consensus of meat production contributing to far less than 50%, especially in developed nations.
In regards to the other study: You certainly didn't leave out this part right before the part you quoted because you're biased, huh?
The primary aim of the plant-based diet is to maximize the consumption of nutrient-dense plant foods while minimizing processed foods, added sugars, oils, and animal-based foods.3 A plant-based diet encourages lots of vegetables and fruits and is low in fat.4 Broadly defined, a plant-based diet has significant health benefits, and studies have shown that a plant-based diet can be an effective treatment for obesity,5–9 diabetes,10–14 hypertension,15 hyperlipidemia,16 and heart disease.17,18
You present those results you listed as a consequence of going vegan when it really isn't. Again, going mostly vegan and reducing sugar intake etc. may well lead to a comparable or even better health status than going full vegan. I don't buy there is proof either way with the current knowledge in nutrition.

[–]iwasbornred0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well there are also a lot more theists than atheists, so that's definitely true. Most atheists are left wing though and have basically replaced God with government. I think leftism is worse than theism because there is plenty of empirical evidence that the left is shit. Theism/God can't be disproven, it's just that theists are making a strange leap of faith without any evidence.
Ok, theists are pretty dumb too. But I guess I see their stupidity as affecting me less, whereas a lot of these atheist leftists want to elect leaders that spew pure shit and repeatedly make dumb decisions.

"Also lol if you think global warming is a serious issue."
The irony of this sub being called the red pill while being filled with science denying morons is pretty hilarious. I guess that it isn't an issue if you don't plan on having kids and if you aren't concerned with the general well being of this world and its inhabitants. But oh wait fuck me I forgot that empathy = loss of frame.
[–]iwasbornred0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
That wasn't me that said that about empathy. I actually responded to him that I disagree.
The phrase science denier is thrown around by the left a lot these days without putting forth actual scientific arguments.
I would recommend you look into Dr. Patrick Moore, one of the founders of greenpeace. He's very passionate about the environment, highly educated, and he was alive before this environmental stuff was so political.
He wound up leaving greenpeace because he felt the direction they were going didn't fit reality and wasn't a productive approach to environmental issues.
[–]Rich051 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Doctor Patrick Moore > 97% of the scientific community? Also Moore isn't even a climatologist. And what does his stance on Greenpeace have to do with anything? Also stop with this retarded right / left divide. There's truth on both sides of the political spectrum. It's your choice to refuse to accept it, it just doesn't make you right.
[–]iwasbornred0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You are required to believe in climate change to be included in those statistics. They brought it down 3% to make it more believable.
If you do some research on the 97% stat, it's less than even close to reliable.
Please go at least listen to Dr. moore's scientific arguments instead of just blindly repeating 97%.
Whether or not you believe in climate change, that stat is grossly fake.
[–]Rich052 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The burden of proof is on you here so if you got any reputable info to share go right ahead but I'm pretty sure you don't. And sure I'll listen to what Moore says about it but you gotta understand that he's just one guy against pretty much the whole scientific community. Also it's been revealed in the past that some scientists have been bribed by big oil to take this position so that's something else to keep in mind.
I don't need to prove anything to you. I made a much larger post that addresses the bribes involved on the other side.
The whole scientific community does not believe in this stuff. As I've said the 97% thing has been debunked by other people. Also, like I said, there are lots of self interest related reasons for scientists to say they believe in it whether they do or not.
Lastly, there is a lot of disagreement about the degree. No one literally believes climate change doesn't exist and that the climate is a constant that never changes(other than dumb right wingers who have taken this stance simply to be against the other side)
Based on my research, I don't believe global warming is a serious threat to humanity. However, I am very disgusted by what we do to specific environments: coral reefs, rivers, forests, etc...
The Dr. Patrick Moore thing is also important less because of whether he's right or makes a good argument, but to understand that this is a man whose life has very much been dedicated to environmentalism and he doesn't believe in this stuff.
Greenpeace is an environmental organization. The fact that a founder of an environmental organization who dedicated his life to helping the environment disagrees with the global warming narrative is an appeal to ethos.
"Climatology" is not an actual field. If you don't buy into climate change, you are ostracized from gov funding, major hits to your career, etc...
I know you'll claim that that is because anyone who disagrees clearly isn't a legit scientist, but there are a large amount of people that can be objectively viewed as very intelligent scientists that disagree.
There are also a much larger amount who agree with them but keep silent to protect their own career.
I used to believe in the left wing narrative towards climate change/global warming by the way. Went to a school where they taught it as fact and I believed it. Later on in life I had a girlfriend who was really passionate about it and wound up doing some research. I quickly discovered that one of the biggest problems with it is that whether its happening or not, people are lying about certain things to make it seem one way or the other. Have you heard about the scandal with NOAA getting caught falsifying data?
Humans are definitely causing damage to the Earth, don't get me wrong. But the fearmongering surrounding it and the fact that the left talks about being for helping the environment yet supports things like illegal immigration and legal immigration from the third world, which are both widely known to be bad for the environment among REAL environmentalists lends to the theory that it's a political talking point and nothing more.
Also, just so you know, a wealthy man named David Gelbaum paid the top climate change lobby 100 million to change their stance on immigration. Before this(and I'm sure there's more payments since then) they were against it because it's bad for the environment.
TLDR: There is a lot of lying going on around the climate change issue and it is not nearly so black and white as you and many others try to make it. The 97% thing is so easily debunked that as soon as someone says that I know they don't really know much about the topic and that I probably care more about the environment than they do. The arguments you're making are lazy, and they are based around propaganda, not objective science.

I am personally a vegan and I'd say there is nothing wrong with it. We are herbivores by nature (will explain in another comment that claims we are omnivores) and it's the healthiest diet.
A lot of people hate vegans because no one likes to be reminded of their objectively bad choices. Still choosing to be vegan besides knowing that kinda proves you're a strong individual who thinks for himself
[–]schmolch0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Every higher animal eats meat. Even herbivores happily accept meat when offered. If you are healthy and i eat you, per definition you will supply me with every nutrient my body could possibly desire. Since canibalism sucks i choose to eat the next best thing, animals with a similar biology to mine, not plants who barely have any nutrient-requirements in common. Do what you want but objectively veganism is a horrible diet.
[–]tanqop0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do whatever you want, but to be healthy being a vegan is going to be hard because you will need to compensate the lack of nutrients you won't be getting from meat anyway...

As a lifting bro who was led to believe we need absurd amounts of protein to build muscle, this is false. 0.6-0.8 g/ lb of bodyweight is actually sufficient. I actually feel so much better with my current macros, by dropping protein back a bit, and upping carbs. Since I've started eating more plant-based, fat intake is naturally lower. I'm not full vegan yet. It's going to be a tremendous challenge for me socially. However, I think something that anybody can do is gradually cut out crap. Cutting meat isn't hard, but animal products in general is more challenging. Take cheese, milk, or yogurt. Some people eat this daily.
Protein is necessary for your body especially if you are trying to get gains. I can't tell you how much you need, so if you're feeling good on your current 0.6-0.8 then why change it? However this does not have to be meats, do your research and figure out what works for you to cover your necessary amino acids.
The better question is why are animal products "crap" to you if they contain the nutrients you need? My take on this, could be wrong since I'm not a health scientist, is that veganism makes it a lot more difficult to meet your nutritional needs. Simply continuing a diet with plenty of both veggies, meats, and various other products. ensuring you get both fats, complex carbs, and proteins, is just simpler and lets you focus on your mission.
And also, if I ever go full vegan, it's not because PETA persuaded me to do so. It's going to be because it's evidence based. Because of scientific data. Because it works best for me and my lifestyle. So although it's not about the animals for me personally, I would still like to reduce my environmental footprint. Also, any of the vitamin/mineral deficiencies associated with veganism can be easily solved. So im not worried about that.
Well if you've found or will find boatloads of scientific evidence supporting your potential switch to veganism, and how to compensate for deficiencies, then go the fuck ahead and try it. Would love to see all this evidence though...
I'm a nursing student, so I constantly deal with patients who are admitted to the hospital often because of chronic/lifestyle diseases. Not acute illness, like trauma or gunshot wounds, but because of slow-killers like heart disease, kidney failure, and type 2 diabetes. I am convinced that there is a way to age gracefully, and just because you get old doesn't mean that your whole body needs to fall apart. People are just accepting all types of shit as a consequence of aging (Low T, ED, Obesity, Depression, High Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, etc.) Why is our health care at its most advanced stage, with new medical breakthroughs surfacing yearly, yet people are at their fattest, and sickest?
Here's where your post falls apart... these people don't need veganism they need moderation, diet-planning, and cutting of simple sugars and other garbage. Or maybe they need to stop drinking. Or its also possible that these people weren't going to avoid going to the hospital in the first place.
If you think veganism is a miracle cure so you can "age gracefully" then you've bought into some propaganda. People are at their fattest/most obese because typical American consumption is ridiculously unhealthy. If you've already adapted your diet to a more healthy lifestyle you've escaped the epidemic. It sounds like you're to fix what isn't broken.

My thoughts personally are that an omniverous diet with about a 70-30 ratio for plant-based and meat-products respectively is probably best.
But it's honestly a field I don't even pretend to have a clue in, there is no one that I have seen, ever, that can claim to have "solved" the diet issue.

My opinion is that any negatives vegans or vegetarians will associate with meat are not about meat being bad for the body, but people misusing it.
You can have a lower protein intake and still eat meat.
Humans are omnivorous. We evolved eating meat, you should eat meat.
[–]Patam247-4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Humans are herbivores, here's why
Mind (small argument, but adds up) When you walk into a slaughterhouse, you are more likely to be uncomfortable of all the corpses, instead of seeing it like a feast, as for example a bear would.
Mouth -Our teeth can grind sideways -try killing an animal with your teeth and jawstrength. -our mouths are small, compared to a true omnivore, the maned wolf -Gorillas are herbivores, and they have k9 teeth three times larger than ours. So saying you got the teeth for meat is a rather unvalid argument.
Body - we can't detox vitamin a - our ph isn't low enough to properly digest meat - we get cardiovascular disease from the cholesterol and saturated fats, which omnivores can't get.
try killing an animal with your nails, which supposedly should be sufficient enough to kill.
What are your arguments against this? I'm curious
[–]iwasbornred2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
We use tools to hunt, not just our body parts.
We hunted for thousands and thousands of years and our genetics evolved based on that.
I believe certain apes will eat meat as well(cannibalism even) although I'm not certain.
As far as our mouths, your true points have not prevented us from eating meat.
Lastly, gorillas could have evolved k9 teeth for a different purpose than us.
The main thing for me is we know that hunting was a huge part of our way of life and diet for the majority of our evolutionary process. I certainly think you can get by without eating meat, but cutting out all meat being healthy for you? Not buying it.

I see your points, and I agree that meat was a necessary part in our evolution. But, if our genetics would have really evolved from meat, then we wouldn't get diseases from eating animal products. We were simply smart enough to kill animals without using our physical traits. That does not mean we are adapted to eat it.
For example, pigs are herbivores but in slaughterhouses they are fed trash meat, which they can also digest and get nutrients from. A certain man also once ate an airplane, but that does not prove that we are evolved to eat it.
The discovery of cooking meat is what made it important in our evolution, because eating it raw is what gets us killed even faster. You are basically asking for salmonella if you don't cook chicken.
Nowadays we can easily get our nutrients from plants. So there is no reason, besides preference in taste, to eat meat, we have that privelege.
I am not going to spend too much time debating with someone I don't know, but I respect the answer you gave me, as most people would get angry unnecessarily. If I triggered your interest, I recommend watching what the health on netflix, it gives a lot of insight on how we have been purposely getting misinformed about health our whole lives.
[–]iwasbornred1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't agree that we would evolve to be immune to all diseases that can come from meat simply because we eat meat/are meant to eat meat. Although I'm sure we have evolved to be more resistant.
The pigs thing is interesting. The airplane thing is also interesting lol but not really relevant.
I've noticed concrete differences in my body when I eat less meat(still enough protein like I said)
I appreciate the documentary suggestion you gave me, however I believe that many/most documentaries especially nowadays are propaganda. I was watching one a while ago that tried to claim hitler was a right wing socialist LOL
Anything to hide the fact that hitler was straight up a typical left wing socialist dictator.
Anything to push the left's "humans are evil, especially white humans, victims are everywhere" narrative
[–]Patam2471 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I could be biased because I eat plant based, but I really don't see what the health as propoganda. If it is not worth your time I can understand that, but there's no point in judging it without seeing it.
Anyways, I'm off. Wish I could have these kind of debates irl.
Ya I'm definitely dismissing it without a fair shake, you're correct. But there has been a horde of similar stuff coming out, and it's highly associated with the left. As someone who considers the Republicans center-left, I think I'm pretty safe assuming that even if I did take the time to watch it I wouldn't give much credit to it.
We all see things differently, perception is everything.

deleted What is this?
Interesting. I didn't know this.
Also, I feel noticeably better if I eat some meat after not eating meat for a bit. Not missing protein, but having protein shakes and other protein sources for a bit without meat. I bet you could find a correlation between meat consumption and t levels, although that is pure conjecture.

Vegetarian here for about 10 years, no problems at all, I keep on with a vegan bodybuilding group (only over the internet, not a bb myself) so to catch up with diet specific themes.
Also as others said before, TRP has nothing on diet specifics so go on with what best suits you.

It's posts like this that make me think this sub is going to the dogs. YOU ARE PREDATOR WHO DEADLIFTS! (I hope) You might as well give up pussy because it's 'unhealthy'... FFsake.
[–]MightyMeket points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
OU ARE PREDATOR WHO DEADLIFTS you are doing some hunting in the grocery store? stop this "predator" bullshit, dumb retard lmao.
[–]SamuraiPizzaCatz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Humans are predators.
A few hundred years of 'modernity' doesn't change hundreds of thousands of years of evolutionary biology/neurology.
you are telling me that hundreds of years of modernity doesnt change the "biology" of being a "predator" for thousands of years, yet most people that buy meat agree that watching those slaughter videos "hurt" them, how come those videos "hurt" people if being a predator is "coded" into us?
[–]SamuraiPizzaCatz1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have troubles watching those videos, too. Guess what? I also hunt.
Those slaughter videos tend to be ones of extreme violence, where a cow has its throat slit and hanged, or where chickens are ground up alive, or where pigs are having their skulls beat in by a hammer.
The context of the death matters, as does the methods. You might as well ask, too, why people get 'hurt' seeing movies where people die horrendously. Humans were and still are HUNTER/gatherers, and you cannot be a HUNTER without being a PREDATOR.
Lol "you are a predator who deadlifts"
That's some seriously superb broscience, will be stealing this

Weird timing coming across this now, as my friends and I have been leaning toward a plant based diet. All of the research does provide strong evidence that a plant based diet is the way to go. It is not to say that you should rule out meat completely, but here in the U.S. almost all the animal food products available are shit. This is because of how the United States production philosophy focuses on profit margin first and product quality errr.... somewhere very much further down the line, That being said if you can afford to get your meat products from a rancher or farmer who's livestock doesn't live in a cess pool of their own shit during development and doesn't use drugs on their livestock that would be a reasonable source of animal based protein. Otherwise the evidence shows that a vegan diet is probably the best dietary decision you can make.
From the beginning to the end of our digestive system we are not anatomically equipped to handle meat in large doses. If your'e looking for a reason to go vegan a small amount of research is all you need, but if you are looking for an argument to defend meat consumption I haven't found any yet. I have started a slow transition into ruling out animal based products and within a month or so intend on being 100% plant based diet. If you make the same decision transition slowly to allow your body to adjust as you need to get used to food not being so calorie dense.
A few good movies to watch on Netflix: "What the health" "In defense of food" "Food inc." "What the health," was the one that did it for me and it basically connects the most common morbid health issues in the U.S. with the meat products we consume. "In defense of food" is the most unbiased and doesn't support the idea of omitting meat from the diet, but does cover evidences that a vegan diet consistently leads to a longer lifespan.
This is a very controversial subject and even my friends and I are trying to find loopholes to the evidence, so that we can with good health conscience, continue to consume animal products. The evidence, however, always points us in the other direction.

Carbs = Glucose = insulin spike = fat loss halted = body fat gain.
Veganism is naturally deficient in so many vitamins, such as D3/K2/B12/Iron, which (mostly) comes from meat. Vegans also have extremely high Omega 6:Omega 3 fatty acid ratios, due to the fact that vegans only have access to Alpha-Linolic-Acid, which is absolutely HORRENDOUS at converting to EPA/DHA, both of which are found readily available in fatty fish.
The Egyptians were almost exclusively vegan, and they also died from heart related issues en masse. Veganism takes the already flawed 'cals in/cals out' logic and throws whatever sanity was involved in it out the window. Your body absolutely does prefer specific sources of vitamins, absolutely does convert different vitamins more/less efficiently, and micronutrients absolutely do matter when looking at overall health.
There's too much correlation between the resurgence of rickets and the rise of veganism to ignore. Rickets, for the unaware, is a disease that deforms leg bones because a diet is too low in K2 and D3, two vitamins extremely important in calcium distribution.
EDIT: Be mad all you want, but when you look these things up you'll see them as fact. Humans have always been designed to eat mainly meat and fat.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
K1 is converted into K2 though.
Your body absolutely does convert different vitamins more/less efficiently
Your body is god awful at converting K1 to K2. The conversion is so insignificant that you'd might as well just not bother eating K1 if that's how you plan on getting your K2.
The only good source of vegan k2 is natto, which is soybeans, which are highly estrogenic, which we're now fucking with our hormones and eating high phytic foods (anti-nutrients).
[–]sudden_potato0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
isnt it phytoestrogens, though? if we are worried about estrogens and shit fucking up our hormones shouldnt the first thing we do stop drinkning milk?
[–]SamuraiPizzaCatz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Most people shouldn't drink milk since most people are either lactose intolerant or lactase non-persistent. The estrogen in milk is due to the cows being pregnant while being milked, to keep the milk production up. If CAFO's and factory farming fucked off with their over-production bullshit that not only harms people but also harms the animals they exploit, there wouldn't be these issues with the animal products we consume.
I buy my milk local, so I don't run into that problem (I'm also lactase persistent, so my body actually benefits from milk).
