Hi guys, long-time lurker here. I was listening to the mating grounds podcast by Tucker Max and a passing comment by one of the evolutionary psychologists on the show made me consider this:

What if evolution showed that male sexual fantasy co-evolved alongside pair bonding so that men could keep a healthy long-term relationship with one partner without veering off to other women while simultaneously satisfying the deep mammalian brain for sexual variety. Does that then justify a boyfriend or husband watching porn, looking at other women, and keeping female friends as a way to psychologically curb cheating? If you limit these behaviors with your current partner, will he be more likely to cheat? I would guess yes although this seems counter-intuitive.

My hypothesis is that women who allowed or just simply didn't mind that their partner watched porn or had female friends would actually be cheated on less and be in more fulfilling, rewarding relationships. This is because when it's allowed without guilt or shame, the psychological desire for sexual variety in men is satisfied. Whereas if you limited or tried to produce shame or guilt on a man who watched porn or had female friends, he would not be able to cope with his internal feelings and be more likely to cheat as a result.

Ideally, I'd like to gather data on relationship outcomes from women who have limited their partners watching porn and / or female friends and women who have allowed their partner to watch porn freely and keep as many female friends as they wanted.

Thoughts? I'm looking for some intellectual discussion on this.
