Role models matter, my dad is great but he’s not RP. He is too kind and soft and doesn’t speak up, he’s a people pleaser, I love him and he’s my dad, but he’s not teaching me new things. He talks about going to the gym but never goes. I’m 19 right now, just finished my first year of college and have been on the path of self improvement since senior year of high school. I changed my diet, gained 40lbs of muscle, started to dress better, and developed my public speaking and value at my job. However I’m struggling with what to learn next. My dad knows a lot of shit, cars, plumbing, electrical, you name it he can do it. However he’s usually working, or doesn’t want to take time to teach me these masculine trades that I’ve expressed desire to learn. This is a post to the dads out there, please just show your sons how to lift, how to work with tools, how to be a man. I wish my dad would’ve brought me to the gym in high school, or taught me how to fix a car, or anything for that matter.
Today young men lack a positive male identity, we are talked down to at school, told masculinity is toxic, and pushed to be feeling driven and “ourselves” we crave time with other men, and the young men today aren’t getting that alpha role model they need to develop into strong leaders. Im lucky enough to have started working out with my friends dad who lost his son. It’s been good for both of us since I’ve gotten someone I can rely on for advice and is helping me become a better man. And he has someone to pass knowledge onto and stay in shape. Please dads, help your boys become men.
