Why the fuck is anyone even talking about this??? If someone breaks into my place while I am there, the first thing I do I restrain them at the end of a 40 cal delivery system. The second thing I do is call the police; I don't call my neighbor, I don't call my employer, and I certainly don't call the local news outlet. This type of investigation and enforcement is not the job of universities.

Ultimately, there is no real reason to be involving schools in these matters (socio-political maneuvering doesn't count), and the notion that they should be needs to be rejected out of hand every time this topic comes up.

Susan Walsh is one of the first "friend of the manosphere" women that turned around and back-stabbed the movement. She used to write about alpha/beta dichotomy, how guys should learn game, and how girls would benefit from settling a little bit earlier with a less attractive guy. Then, when she realized that more clicks (and by proxy, money) could be received by writing about the exact opposite stance, hardcore feminist, she began deleting old posts, burned down the comment section and only allows about 5-6 "echo chamber" commenters to leave notes there now, and calling out her former "allies" in the manosphere. She now denounces pickup artists and "game", is all-in on "rape culture", and advocates hard for the carousel. She's a snake, and I hope she fades into obscurity.

I especially like this (one)[https://archive.today/9KWty] from Jezebel writer Anna Merlan writing about how Robby Soave at Reason and Richard Bradley at Worth (who was originally incorrectly stated was retired, and put in a bullshit backhanded retraction).

A good line: "But never mind Erdely's months of work. Two guys who have no idea what they're talking about don't believe it. Case closed."

Ooooh, not so fast Anna... Months of fact checking that doesn't involve talking to those accused doesn't really count as fact checking. There's probably a 101 class you missed about that....

Best of all, she goes full idiot herself in the comments, talkingf about having a "master's degree in journalism from Columbia and I [Merlan] write investigative stories. ". Gee, shouldn't a reporter with such fine credentials and journalist pedigree also have a healthy set of skepticism for any investigative reporting that doesn't present the accused side?

She also received a message from Bradley, who was a little miffed about her originally stating he was retired when he's the editor in chief . In it, he states that Erdely never interviewed the accused despite them having been identified. Merlan doubles down on the idiocy, and cites a Washington Post interview as proof that the attackers identities weren't known. Which, I might add, proves Bradley's point that they weren't interviewed.

The problem with the WaPo bit is that the quote Merlan used to 'prove' Erdely contacted the accused says the EXACT OPPOSITE. It states that the details are sensitive, and that Erdely was "bound to silence". I, being a skeptical human, interpted that to mean that Erdely couldn't talk to the accused because Jackie was scared. I suppose that Merlan, giving Erdely the benefit of the doubt, interpreted it to mean Erdely had done interviews but isn't giving that side in the article, but it's certainly not definitive 'yes' there either.

The comments get better from there, where she accuses many who (IMHO) make good reasoned arguments of being trolls, and continues to defend Erdely despite the original argument (didn't speak to the accused) being proven invalid in a follow-up.

Anna, you're not an investigative reporter. You're a hack. Investigators don't fish for reasons to believe, they go out and prove instead. Columbia may be a wonderful journalism school, but after wiping your ass with that degree over the past few days, it certainly doesn't have the polish it used to.

If a group of boys in high school gang raped a girl it would be national news and handled by the police immediately. So why is it that everyone thinks it's colleges that should be prosecuting these incidents?

Exactly. People can't seem to get this around their heads that less than 1% of rapes are false claims. The amount of shame, harassment, and overall cost. involved in reporting rape is so severe, I really don't know who would want to sit around falsely accusing someone.

It is possible that if rape did begin to be taken seriously false claims might rise a little if it becomes easy to take action. However, it is hard to successfully fabricate a story without proof. There is a judicial process to follow. And there are people falsely accused of murder, theft so we have to consider that people could be falsely accused of anything, no matter the crime.

I think false accusations are just excuses for people. Wimpy men will use it as an excuse to not hit on women. Others will use it as an excuse to protect perpetrators.

I knew this story was bogus as soon as I read it and seeing now it's a hoax is no surprise to me. Then again I'm a cynical man of 38. I haven't "seen it all" but what I've seen would make most 20 year olds shake their head in furious denial.
