It's the 'somebody think of the children' belief, usually. Regardless of whether nuclear family is best for kids, civilization isn't crumbling because of single parents, divorce, or common-law couples. Just chicken little shit. Maybe humanity has been over-civilized.

Why should people be suspicious of bachelors? Why should men have to get married to further their careers?

Many conservatives idea of civilization is that everybody play by the same tight set of rules. It's a false sense of security and order.

Marrying is not "manning up", regardless of whether it's Marriage 1.0 or 2.0. Marrying up will not fix feminism or culture or voting patterns. It will not fix anything b/c it's literally doing the same thing that has been done for hundreds years.

I think on the conservative side it's more about trying to rebuild society which is why it's advocating for marriage. They see a major problem of the last 70 years in the West being the breakdown of the family, which has more causes than just identity politics and feminism even though both played a major role.

So it may be misguided to some, but for a lot of people it's rooted in facts about the decline of the West. However, they're trying to hopeful about the future (nothing more hopeful than having children) rather than just dancing on a pile of rubble. Both have their benefits but it's not necessarily that conservatives have a blind spot to the nature of marriage today - it's not like they're advocating marrying any old slut. Yes AWALT, but if we're going with doublethink words here, I'll go Animal Farm and say: all women are equal, but some women are more equal than others.

The invasion of the church by leftist and feminist forces in the west has been going on for over 100 years. Well, it's obvious why women would want to believe in the system of marriage exactly how it is right now - ie all upside and no obligation for women.

Men however... also have a motivation to continue this system. Partly they need to believe their current or future wife will be obligated by marriage to love them. This delusion and logical fallacy is present in most men. "Just find a special girl and then marry her - all problems solved".

There is also the crab bucket mentality ... "I am suffering in this marriage, you should do it too!" also seen as "Why should you have fun when I'm not?"

And lastly there is the desire to push responsibility for women and children onto other men. "You go and marry those bitches so that I personally don't have to support them or be responsible for them".

Perhaps also there is a need for social and female approval - a belief that if men are willingly sacrificed the women will approve of them and love them for it.

The delusion that women will hold up their end of the marriage deal seems to be universal in men and opportunistically encouraged by women.

I say there is an overlap because despite the left's hatred of traditional patriarchal values, they still believe that women(especially post wall) are entitled to marry a guy and use him as an atm, and just like the right, they put the burden on the men rather than address the women or the system.

i disagree with this. strongly. my mom is very conservative and i grew up going to church. i'm in my mid 30s. she'd freak out if i brought home a post-wall girl because that's like telling my mom she'll be lucky to get 1 grandchild.

go walk into a church during mass. single post-wall women are nowhere to be found, and it's not because some guy manned up and became her ATM... they got married pre-wall and now they have kids.

I'm christian and can tell you that many take the view that as Christ loved the church, and gave his life for it, so should a husband do for his wife. (Ephesians 5:25) However, the church is to be obedient to Christ and love him with all heart, soul, strength and mind. (Luke 10:27) How many wives do that?

As with most biblical interpretative errors, people like some verses and not others.
