The media "covering it up" to save face isn't a feminist conspiracy, it's just what news agencies do when they fuck up these days.

Well, yeah, I'm not implying conspiracy

Autocorrect on my phone friendo. An epic upvote to you, good sir, you are a gentleman and le scholar

I wonder if this has happened here at TRP. Someone coming in with a string of good posts then dropping a bomb like "rape is good" just to show us how "fucked up" we are.

[–]still_very_alive28 points29 points30 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fortunately, the community tends to be wary of things like that, I've noticed. After a while, you get used to those tactics, and develop countermeasures (skepticism, calling out bullshit, or even programming a bot to automatically screenshot all posts so they can't change to to something horrible afterwards to slander the sub).

The best acid test is 'logic'.

Good ideas are good. Bad ideas are bad. Doesn't matter who says them, or if somebody has both. Judge the ideas on their merit, not their speaker.

[–]epicupvoted[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is totally true but totally contrary to post-modern discourse, where the speaker's identity is of primary importance

In this sub, I sometimes see dumb shit upvoted due to flair... Upvotes don't always equal strength/truth of post.

[–]Chiptehubah19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, people are skeptical.

There was a self-declared sociopath who posted yesterday with a long, well-worded post. Top comment?

"Hey guy, doesn't something seema bit off here?"

A major aspect of what TRP teaches is calling out bullshit. I think we'll make it just fine if it ever does happen.

[–]QQ_L2P4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was curious about that yesterday. Admittedly, I have no personal experience in seeing a sociopath in action, but there were a few people who seemed to think it was legit.

Could you shed any light on why people thought he wasn't?

[–]Chiptehubah2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A word we've all read on here a bit too much lately is 'manipulating'. The guy was talking about sociopathic tendencies that employ the most epitomic examples of maniplulation.

What we do here is obviously tactical engagement with women; similar to manipulation, but not so controlling and obssessive. TRP hates obsession over women, so his use of 'manipulating' tactics struck a nerve with more than a few members.

[–]trpalternate2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

IIRC, /r/mensrights had a problem with that. They solved it by making a bot that automatically screencaps threads.

[–]DarkSayed 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It will happen to any forum with polarising opinions.

[–]tallwheel1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It happens, and it is usually downvoted into oblivion.

[–]Dimsml8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A cage full of hamsters.

No, seriously, who goes rationalising things that were done spontaneously for the lulz?

[–]chakravanti930 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wel,l you have to attribute it to something and bring it down a notch. Otherwise it's excessive and intolerable and then you don't have a point anyway so let it go, okay? You know what I'm saying.

[–]squarehead935 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Newly legitimized politicians, academics and media elites ascended to positions of power, and it was for the best that they were successful. Eventually they became victims of their own success; there were no more great enemies to fight. The dark lords that they once drew power from via their own contrast were gone, the black, spikey crowns crushed. And now, dear reader, we witness an existential crisis of revolutionary proportions. Pun intended, since a permanent revolution is what these movements want and need. Feminists and their ilk need to find more and more ludicrous thing to revolt against in order to stoke the fires of legitimacy to create the same contrast that they could once enjoy by just being reasonable.

Freaking THIS. People have talked about modern feminists as being "professional victims," which the author identifies as the social justice crusaders who came to positions of power during or after the revolution.

I've actually come up with a term, the "perpetual state of oppression" to describe the mindset of modern feminists. I think most of us here would agree that the initial feminist movement, fighting for suffrage, etc. was entire legitimate and reasonable. But as the author says, once those obstacles were cleared and their enemies vanquished, they needed new foes, which is why Western feminists are so obsessed with non-existent threats like "rape culture" and the supposed existence of hundreds or thousands of men with the same mindset as Elliot Rodger.

Regardless, the article is a sound breakdown of why feminism is for idiots. I could give a shit about how neutered he is outside the piece.
