Definitely do it. Fraternities are great in every regard. Don't listen to the people that are against them, mainly because they are the BP types that see frat guys having a bunch of fun, bedding women, and try to find an excuse why they aren't doing the same. Frats are the shit and a ton of fun. Mine only cost 500 a semester, which paid off in tremendous dividends. I can't even imagine a club that cost me only 500 bucks that would give me even a 1/10th of the experiences, connections, and pussy I got in a frat.

I joined a fraternity my sophomore year of college because my best friend from middle school did it and talked me into it. I'm glad I did.

Plate spinning the sororities is abundant. If you join and are involved in the fraternity there are a lot of opportunities to practice leadership and management skills that you don't really find too much in college. Being an officer in a fraternity or inter-fraternity council or whatever is a great way to get actual hands-on experience in leading and coordinating projects. Networking is of course easy. My three closest brothers are now a doctor, a lawyer, and a Navy pilot (and he got a recommendation from another brother that joined a couple years before him). There's a wide variety of pursuits, and if you get a close circle of like-minded friends you will all push yourselves to succeed in whatever you're doing. There's really no downside and plenty of advantages that would be much harder to get outside of a fraternity.

Highly situational. They are good if the college has a big greek life component and you've met a few brothers who you like. I wouldn't worry about whether the frat itself actually focuses all that much on parties, brotherhood, charity, etc. As long as there's a reputation of the house having attractive guys and you've met a few cool RP brothers, you're good to go.

I'm not from the US, but, from what I've gathered, being in a popular fraternity = preselection. Of course I would advise looking at things beyond getting pussy, but you can do them outside of your fraternity, can you not?

If those are the guys you like, and sorority girls are the girls you like, go for it. If you like partying, go for it.

For guys who want that lifestyle, they're great, but they're not for everyone; I've never even considered joining one, because I hate big parties, and the only sorority girls I ever end up liking are the ones who say shit like "Yeah I'm in a sorority, but I'm not that into it. Most of my friends are just from my classes or wherever."

Honestly the only people who don't like frats are the people who aren't in them. I didn't have the first hand experience of joining one as my education was more trade school but I've partied with them. To be more honest, you can't go wrong with it. Pledging will probably suck but when you become a brother, those people can and will help you get pussy, get work after college, become connected and they do quite a bit for the communities they're in.

I would highly recommend joining one that you feel suits you or just join the rowdiest one that parties the hardest.

Definitely do it, but join a cool house that parties a lot with the best looking sororities. It opens a lot of doors, especially if you live in the house. You also make friends and a network for life.

College fraternities will indeed surround you with like-minded people, although that may make it LESS easy for you to maintain RP, since it won't be something you have to consciously decide. Growth happens through struggle. On the other hand, plenty of BP dudes in frats too, because it's easy to go with the flow and not internalize RP if it seems like the guys you hang with are like that.

However, I will wholeheartedly endorse the Masons, as a Brother myself and a former member of the Shrine. Yes, some older dudes, which might seem a little weird at first, but seriously: who do you think is better at teaching you to be a real man? A senior frat brother, or a 60 year old who has lives the life for real? Respect is not deserved after 3 or 5 years of frat parties and car washes. Respect is deserved after a lifetime of true masculinity. You'll learn soooo much more.

I had an ex that took some drugs at this scumbag guy's house and had to get her stomach pumped. Rather than admit what she did she blamed it on a nearby frat, saying they slipped it into her drink at a party. The school banned the frat from throwing parties for 2 years and she wasn't even at their event.

It was one of those experimental hallucinogens, not even of the date-rapey type. Her parents were concinved she tried to kill herself but I thought she was being stupid and experimenting with drugs. Either way it was fucked up that she blamed a frat that had nothing to do with it.

I imagine a similar thing happens to many frats across the country.

I've done it, with DEPsi and its a great experience. I never really knew what I was getting into (besides the typical pledging experiences) but once I was in, I had responsibilities I didn't expect and had obligations to fulfill in order to help us contribute to our cause, which was JDRF. We held a lot of events and when I was on campus, I was part of the second class in the chapter (colony at the time). Now we've grown so big and have added more than twice the amount of chapters since I first joined.

People say its a club that costs money and what not but the connections and camaraderie you make is crucial for successful networking in the future.

I was in a fraternity and I highly suggest anyone even remotely interested should check them out. First of all it's one of the last things that we have as a male only space that isn't trying to be infiltrated or made open to women.

In a fraternity you interact in a group of like minded men. It isn't just partying and nothing else. At least in my fraternity we had parties but also did some kick ass fundraisers for charity and other community service. In the fraternity you will likely be a part of some committee, hold a chair position, or even hold an executive position. You learn how to balance responsibilities with fun, how to run an organization to some scale, and you get better with socializing with men.

Also, you have X amount of people that know you. They know your faults, quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. When you say or do that dumb thing they are always there to tease you about it but at the same time they have your back and won't judge you for it. You have men you can talk about your difficult life problems with instead of turning to that girl you are talking to (which scares her away).

You also get better with women. No matter what the general opinion is. No matter what you see people say about fraternities being a bunch of douche bags, bros, etc. you will ALWAYS find that the sexy women end up attending these parties. So that guy who thinks he is better than fraternities says on wednesday "Frat bros annoy me man, I'm not a drone who follows a group or needs to buy my friends." But I bet you $100 that he is at the fraternity party Friday standing on the side with his beer watching all of the brothers party with the girls. Or he is standing in the main room talking to a girl and later on that night she is partying with the brothers in the brothers only chapter room and he goes home alone. So no matter their opinion it's still the best place to party. With that many girls and that many wingmen you will have good success. Also girls who go to parties want to hangout with the ones throwing the party.

Frats are a lot like this thread in particular. Anyone with an unpopular opinion gets stifled by people who aren't comfortable on their own with their opinions. Frats will change you to fit how other members are.

It may facilitate the networking process, but it makes you sooo much more dependent on those around you. How are you going to walk in a job interview by yourself without a "brother" to accompany you? People meet people naturally; without payment.

I'm a sophomore in college (at UK), and greek life is heavy here. Everyone in frats dress up nice and neatly juuust like each other.

I'm not in one since I opted to have a single apartment ( too expensive for both) since I had better luck getting girls back to my place when I was on my own in the dorms. But you should try and find one that you gel with if you are going into something where you'll need networking later on like business. I would say at the very least go to the rush events at your school and see if you click with anyone.

I imagine a fraternity is how a beta person ensures hanging out with girls. We dont need to pay a shit ton of $$ and live in terrible conditions to have friends that are like brothers and girls that want to get laid. BETA SHIT! Go your own way and get what you desire on your own!
