In the last year, I’ve truly come to grasp the importance of abundance in all aspects of life. In college, I became familiar with abundance mentality in terms of dating and used it to my advantage to facilitate natural confidence. It was always a lot of work on the front end, but once the wheels started turning, there was no looking back.

Recently, I viewed this mentality in a brand new light and it has since spurred a shift in my mindset. A few months ago, I was looking to join/form a new band. I play guitar and wanted to join a fun band to have some fun, play on the weekends, and meet some senoritas. I’ve been in bands before and they are fucking awesome (you should form one).

I didn’t really know anyone in my local music scene (a newbie to the area), so I looked to craigslist for some leads. The first audition I went to was perfect. They were a bunch of dudes my age, with similar influences and interests. Overall, awesome dudes and I loved their music.

I busted ass and thought I nailed the audition - it seemed like we really hit it off. They said they would call back, but long story short, they never did. I later found out that they found someone else they liked better and totally forgot about me.

At any rate, I expected a call almost immediately based on how hard I thought I crushed the audition. Crickets. I started to doubt myself. I was constantly checking my phone in case I missed the text or call from them. It basically drove me insane. It reminded me of girls I used to obsess over in high school and college.

It was ridiculous and I’d had enough. Instead of waiting for these jabronis to text me back, I decided to put the pressure on them. I started taking more and more auditions. I even found a few dudes that I liked even more and we are still in a band today. I took control and transformed my scarce situation into abundance. I started attacking what I wanted instead of waiting for it to come to me.

The most important part was that I freed myself from outcome dependence of one situation, from the anxiety and nagging inner voice constantly forcing me to check my email and phone to see if that one person pinged me back. That made me realize, abundance mentality needs to be applied to all aspects of my life:

  • Women - constantly have 3+ plates spinning at all times
  • Career - send out resumes to multiple companies, take multiple interviews
  • Social - always have 3-4 different friend groups to hit up for social activities
  • Money - begin saving and creating multiple streams of income so you’re not beholden to your shitty 9-5 job
  • Sales - have leads in your funnel at all times, even when you’re closing a big fish
  • School - crush your courses early and often so you don’t have to rely on one grade at the end of the semester
  • Networking - constantly meet new people and win them over, stay in touch
  • Sports - build a team with as many consistently good players as possible, don’t rely on one superstar

The person who wins the negotiation is always the person who needs it the least. Abundance gives you leverage to win. Put in the work to develop abundance in the important areas of your life, maintain it, and enjoy the world on easy mode.
