This is a personal issue that every man has to resolve for themselves. We obviously care about our family and close friends (unless you're a sociopath). Beyond that, though, it's up to you to decide do you care about other people. I'd hesitate towards saying there is an "RP" stance on this issue. While most RP people might tend towards self-interest being rational and expected, I think it's possible to have a deep caring for others while also being RP.

Me, I don't. People cause widespread misery, rationalize the damage they do to others and our world away by using religion or some minor altruistic act to convince themselves that they are "good", and basically have taken the greatest miracle in our planet, the evolution of human consciousness, and shat all over it. We all use each other to the greatest extent capable by the law, and while I've met maybe 10-20 people who are truly wonderful and care about all humans, 99.99% of people I've met are just like me. If they had a button they could press that would kill 1,000,000 random people in the world not related to them, and give them 1,000,000,000 dollars, they would press it. Done.

I don't judge people for being like this. I am selfish too. I'm in it for the power, the sex, the money, and my own happiness. After that in my priorities, I care to some degree about bettering the lives of my close friends and family. This benevolence towards my inner circle might just be self-interest, because they have also helped me out and will continue to do so. I might just be hamstering that I actually care about them as people.

So given this perspective, No, I don't care and neither should you.

But then you have to ask, is this mindset beneficial? If not caring about people brings your life down, then the RP thing to do is care about people. Choose whichever betters your life. A lot of great, happy people genuinely care. Some great researchers who had made millions developing great products like medicines genuinely cared about people. That gave them the impetus to stay up late, to work 1% harder, which led to their success. Some musicians genuinely care about their listeners and really want to deliver them experiences that improve their life. This caring about people makes their life better, so yes, they should care. The best professors care about their students actually learning, and because they care, they keep moving up the totem pole.

If you feel that creative urge to make the world a better place, then caring about people to some degree can really help you. So you should - when the going gets tough, you will be propelled forward by feeling all these people on your shoulders counting on you. If you genuinely care about people, they can feel your positive intentions. Yes, you can fake this, but it's hard and tiring. Think Mitt Romney - at some point, if you don't care about people, you will not win people over and everyone will call you robotic, sociopathic, elitist, etc. In his case, not caring about people probably helped him rack up his millions with Bain, but on the other hand, it created these slight giveaways during his campaign that made him just feel... wrong.

So what I'm saying is, pick your moral beliefs. Pick what is important to you. Are you a guy trying to WIN or a guy trying to help the world win? Both of these guys can live happy successful "alpha" lives. But whether you care about people will be calibrated to which of these two you are.

Well most people value fairness to at least some extent. If we see people treated unfairly we have a visceral reaction against it.

Of course the gender wage gap is largely a myth perpetuated by perpetual victimhood-peddlers

I agree entirely. Here's an interesting thought experiment I came up with:

Would you rather die today or live forever and have every other human being die?

I think I care for you out of an instinct to ensure the survival of our species. I want not only to flourish personally but for our people to flourish, and that includes you.

With the gender pay difference, if you aggregate out women taking extended breaks (mostly to have kids) during the prime if their careers women make significantly more than men on average.

In the case of black people for example, because our society runs on the premise that any of us could have been born black, so those of us who weren't should care about those that are.

Read "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins. It explains this kind of altruism completely. It argues that there are two basic ways to help your genes spread.

1)You can take up the attitude of worrying only about yourself. This will ensure that the genes of the individual will flourish. Why worry about the financial health of women when you can still fuck them regardless?

2)You can do the "altruistic" thing and help half the population buy increasing their wealth. This ensures that the half of the population with the high value child bearing organs, increases their survivability. You can take a hit to the male population and possibly keep the birth rate the same. not so with the ladies. Altruism will help to keep the overall population of the species healthy.

In evolutionary terms, you aren't supposed to have everyone care or not care. Both of these behaviors are selected for in order to foster adaptability within the species. So by all means, let someone else do the caring.

I personally receive joy from helping those who are unable to help themselves. I donate time to the big brother program and try to provide a strong male role model to a kid who is given almost no chance at life (moms a worthless welfare whore and is nowhere to be found). If I see some elderly woman struggling with her groceries there is a very good chance I will help. Or if there is some guy who ran out of gas and pushing his car I will probably get out and help him push. Helping others like that makes me feel better about my self, so yeah it is kind of selfish.

Now I do not give a shit if some women makes less then a man. Am I going to intervene in a public fight between a husband and wife, unless he is beating the shit out of her and she can't fight back, then probably not. Rape culture? lol The patriarchy? it is as real as the Illuminati. Those people want to be victims, but just choose not not help themselves, they would rather bitch.

So basically, you should only care about other people as much as they care about you, which is not much at all, but for selfish reasons helping the helpless makes me feel good.

In this example, it's because its because we (humans) are the only ones who can change it. God isn't gonna sprinkle magical fairy dust around and make shit equal for us.

This discrimination is occurring because of human selfishness and the equality for all ideal says we have to do something about it.

I think the "equality for all" ideal is absolute bullshit. It is what it is though.

I believe most people care about each other to some degree. Don't be a martyr and absorb everyone's problems, but human beings are meant to be social and civilization oriented. The issue you use is a myth so therefore I will not care about made up shit.

The point is we need each other to some degree. Some more so than others I think.

I was at a conference last year and a woman said to me "Isn't it great that for the first time in history, membership in Toastmasters has reached 50% women?"

My response was: "I don't care, it really doesn't affect me." Cue the outrage.

Keep in mind that Toastmasters started as a men's only club. Now, in this particular case I don't think it's a matter of women invading men's spaces and I don't mind having women as part of the organization. There is no discrimination and there's no barrier to entry. For me it makes absolutely no sense to be proud of reaching some quota.

I will tell you one thing: Anyone who tells you that you should care about some particular issue has an agenda. In the case of our "duty" to care about women, it's the feminine imperative.

You can talk about privilege and altruism, but if you look at behavior you will see people ignoring issues that are objectively more important or unfair to push forward their pet cause, usually one that benefits them personally.

I will leave guilt-ridden self-haters in their own separate category, since there is nothing respectable about them.

tl;dr: True altruists are even rarer than unicorns.
