I've seen this script play out right in front of me. My own mother divorce my successful father, thinking she could do better. He dated much younger, gorgeous women. She dated nothing but complete losers who were several rungs below my father on the rating scale. He never remarried, and taught me from a young age to never get married myself.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but...

in the Midwest, in my neck of the woods, these ladies can cougar it up and have sex with younger men with low standards. THey could even get a "serious relationship" with older men. They're not fat. They're at least not unattractive. They are attractive enough to get men interested in them for sex. They will always have male attention if they want it.

The thing is, these women would be respected matriarchs had they stayed with their husbands. Women who are 40 to 55 are not intended for dating. They're just not intended to be going out, staying out late, getting the shit fucked out of them by men they don't know very well, etc. And they don't handle it well emotionally.
