One of wife and I's first dates many years ago was to our city's St. Patrick's Day parade. We've gone few times since then, but with kids which is always a hassel. We were talking about it a few weeks ago, and we both expressed interest in going again sans kids. So, I arranged for our neighbor to watch the kids so we can go. I'm going to tell her tonight, but lately she's been in a bitchy mood (starting PMS).

I've done things like this before, in the past, setting something up and surprising her with plans. Since our marriage has been poor, about 50% of the time she just tells me she's not interested in that. BP me would just mope and cancel the plans. I get the feeling that, due to her recent attitude among other things, that when I tell her about the plans this weekend she is going to balk. What's the best way to maintain frame through this?

M: i've arranged for the neighbor to babysit for us on Saturday, we are going together to the St. Patrick's Day parade like we talked about, without the kids.

H: no thanks, I'm not interested, I don't want to go, blah blah blah

M: don't forget to wear your green

Just feels like canceling the plans would be weak. What's the best way to maintain frame, and be fun, if she rejects joining me for the plans I've already set up? Should I just continue to plan to go, and let the babysitter show up?
