I'm about to start a bulking diet, which is the first time in my adult life I'm going to intentionally put on weight. So I don't know a whole lot about it.
I just had a Dexa scan and a Metacheck, which calculates my RMR, total calories burned per day, my metabolism, and percentage of fats to carbs my body uses for fuel.
I'm 43 years old, 211 pounds, 6'-4", and 11.2% body fat. My goal is to add on 15 pounds of muscle and keep the same body fat percentage by the end of May 2017 -- approximately 2 pounds of muscle per month for the next 8 months.
According to the Metacheck, I need to eat 4,289 calories per day on my workout days (which is 6 days per week) to be able to meet my goal calorie wise.
I'm going to struggle to eat that many calories per day and eat cleanly. So here is my stupid question: can that be an average of 4,289 calories per day? It will be easier for me to be consistent during the week while at work versus the weekends where it's more unstructured. I think I could eat 5,000 calories per day during the work week (fuck, that sounds like a lot typing it out) and eat around 2,500 calories on Saturday and Sunday. Does that still work out in the long term?
My goal is to split my macros in this manner: about 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight and then split the remaining calories 50/50 between carbs and fats. According to my Metacheck, my body burns fats and carbs nearly equally.
Do you have any suggestions on this diet? Again, this is my first bulking diet, which I'm planning to do for about 8 months, so any advice is appreciated.
Also, I'm not planning on changing my workout any. My body seems to respond best to around 8 reps per set (plus I just enjoy that range the most), and I try to go to failure each set. My split is like this:
Mon - back Tues - tri's Wed - shoulders/lats Thurs - bi's Fri - chest Sat - legs
I work out on my lunch hours which gives me about 40 minutes of workout time, so that is why I have the somewhat unique split. I try to go as fast and heavy as I can, and I can get in 12 sets total per workout.
Again, thank you for any advice.
