I come to realize that racked up a big amount of debt ie) Student loans and car loans. Those are the only 2 things that are holding me back financially (~40k). I have a well paying job and I live out of my parents so I can attend university and work part time/full time in the summer. Have about 27k saved up, 8k of that is currently in TFSA/index funds or whatever it is and a good credit score.

I was not taught the ins and outs of finances and although I can do a quick google search here and there, I’m still a bit lost on whats the best way to address my debt. Any tips on addressing financial debt for younger guys? I feel like I have my head screwed on right for the most part but still have one thumb up my ass. Thanks.

Options:

  • place my car on consignment and drive a POS
  • pay lump sums until its all gone and live frugally
  • pay my car off aggressively, and slowly tackle student loans as I plan to be in school for at least another 4-8 years.
  • purge most of my belongings and assets and live minimally
