I’m not sure about my decision on cutting and bulking so I thought I’d come here for help.
Quick Backstory: About 2 years ago I was 255 pounds of all fat and no muscle. I put myself on a strict diet of pretty much just grilled chicken and vegetables and lost 70 pounds. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any lifting during this time and my calorie deficit was so low that I lost any bit of muscle that I had.
That brings us to the present. Right now I’m 188 lbs, about 20% body fat, and have a little bit of muscle. I wasn’t really making any significant muscle gains until a month ago when I switched from a deficit to a surplus. Since then I’ve been getting a lot stronger without much fat gain. My question is when should I start cutting for the summer? I know most people would start around now but I don’t want to cut when I’m finally gaining a lot of muscle. I was thinking of starting to cut in March so by the end of May I could lose around 15 pounds and be in the 15ish% bf range. So is it better to starting cutting now and be really lean but not as large or keep bulking for the next two months and have more muscle but not be as lean? Thanks.
