I can’t say i’ve seen too many posts on this topic but after going through a rough patch recently I was curious as to how one builds greater emotional toughness/resilience?

I’ve been through a lot of shit in my life, shit childhood/teenage years, health issues, repeat gym injuries, broken friendships, failed relationships, several oneitises, crushing workloads etc and generally I come out on top successful but one thing I notice is that it for me, it never quite seems to get easier.

As I risen the career ladder, the time/effort/responsibility that has gone into my job has risen exponentially and other parts of my life have suffered.

I look around at some people and they seem to go through life with no issues/dramas/hardships. Some of these people are even more financially successful than me. Others seem to be ruthless in pursuing their goals and don’t let the small things get in their way, or at least bounce back quicker from hardship.

Does anyone have any insight into how to harden ones emotions? I’ve done combat sports etc in the past which were good for getting out of the comfort zone, and physical pain generally doesn’t bother me.

At times I think my biggest issue is disappointment, i.e the gap between expectations and reality, but I also don’t want to set the bar lower and just accept a crappy life.

Do I need more adversity? Spend more time out of the comfort zone? Work on gratitude? Be more disciplined? Less disciplined (i.e spontaneity/fun)? Therapy...?

Any advice would be appreciated.
