To me, a gentleman is a man that makes those around him comfortable.

I certainly don't think it means that I have to do things for other people that I don't want to do. I take care of myself first then if someone else needs something and I feel like giving, I give without the expectation of anything in return.

You're Dad's definition is full on beta. Let people use you as a door mat and then some lady will love wiping her feet on you.

As for the IDGAF douchebags... read the sidebar. Those aren't douchebags, just guys that don't do what other people want them to.

Gentleman in the 1700s was actually an insult created by common men directed at Nobleman when technology made life easier and lead to the enlightenment the concept of opening doors and elegant dance etc. Real men were mining coal and these fairies wives were fucking the filthy stable boy. It's an insult don't insult yourself

You're father is wrong. Girls aren't attracted to gentlemen, they're attracted to masculinity: Strength, dominance, success, etc. (i.e. "alphas"). Being a gentleman is only show dressing. Woman always say they wish they could find a "nice guy" or a "gentleman," but what they really mean is that they want a Chad who is also good to them. The two are not related.

A woman will settle for a IDGAF attitude is it means getting an "alpha" with which they're attracted. My advice if you want to get girls: Focus on strength and masculinity first, and having manners and being decent towards others won't hurt if you have those masculine components. As long as you don't do it in a "beta" way (i.e. like a "nice guy"), being a gentleman might even be advantageous if you're looking for a good LTR.

Usually it's the mom who pushes that line of bullshit but generally speaking parents are the worst place to get romantic advice. At the very least, his advice is decades out of date. When was the last time he had to try and seduce a new woman: was Ronald Reagan still President?

He's doing what he has to do to get his once-a-month boring duty sex. What you want to do is totally different.

Holding open a door or pulling a chair out for a woman isn't beta. It's a perfect time to say hello and chat her up. real world example I'm at a neighborhood bar and walk up to sit down. Two open stools and two women walking up to the stools at the same time I do. I pulled out the stools and told the ladies to have a seat and made a joke about if I had sat down and let them fight over who gets to sit next to me. Then I introduced myself, chatted about slow service, used body language, introduced touch, etc. (Sidebar, fellas) Exchanged numbers after a while and ended up fucking the brunette for about 2 months late last year. Every situation is an opportunity to be used to your advantage, even being a gentleman.
