How can I learn from someone else?

Well, the truly best one is apprenticeship: you get the guy in a secluded place where you can talk freely, tell him that you really like/ admire how he can talk up anybody at anytime, ask him if he's willing to share some pointers/ teach you since you feel like you're being bad at socialising. If he honestly agrees and teaches you, then you have your answer.

The only slight issue with this approach is that the guy might secretly be full of himself/ boastful/ egocentric/ smug/ other derivatives of the above. In that case he will (probably in a slight shaming manner) refuse your request.

Being a copycat at such things works but to an extent, since as you said: you're doing the moves but you don't really know what's what, why it must be done, when, how, etc. . Also, you don't truly know if he's a natural (if he is, then the chances of him having a hidden negative trait kinda increase a little) or if he gained it (he might be a little more altruistic in this case).

Some people are naturally gifted and have amazing wit which you just can't copy. However, you can improve. You have to take genuine interest in people and just expose yourself to more social situations. I'd recommend the book how to win friends and influence people.

I know how you feel. There's a few guys at my work that are just engaging and funny. They are also quick witted with comebacks and jokes, and can make large groups of people laugh with ease.

Only way I've gotten better is just hanging around them and conversing and joking with them.
