I am what they may call an empath. If someone else is in pain, I can't help but feel it. I hate it, it's exhausting. But it's just the way my body reacts. And then I go into savior mode. It comes from my childhood, I know it. My mother was needy all the time. And she would make me always come to her rescue. That messed me up. So now, I always end up feeling other people's pain, projected or real. This makes things hard for me, like plating women. I feel "bad" breaking up with girls. Their break-up pain is my pain. I can't stand pain. Except my own. I suffer, so other's don't have to. I hate it. Why do I have to suffer? It's not fair. Why doesn't anyone help me? Why am I not allowed to ask for help? Has anyone else ever experienced something similar? Any advice on overcoming? How do I develop a thicker skin? How do I allow myself to see others in pain and not feel compelled to react? How do I learn to put myself first? How do I learn to be more selfish?
