Hi. I need some outside perspective regarding my relationship:

  • Very long distance relationship. 6 months. I've flown out to see her 3 times already. These trips have cost me $5000 in total. The LDR nature is both emotionally and financially draining.
  • We're both in graduate school so the future is very uncertain for the both of us. She wants me to get a industry job after PhD and she wants to become a housewife. A part of me feels that she is using me as a safety net. She wasn't attracted to me when we started going out.
  • Initially I just wanted to have sex with her but I was pressured into a relationship (I'm a little bit ashamed to admit this). We already had sex many times but she has told me that we wont have sex anymore for at least a year.
  • She has a great personality, smart, etc...i.e. someone I can see marrying. I've developed strong feelings for her but the logical side of me tells me to break up with her.
  • I'm scared of confronting her because I've made her cry in the past, She is a good person and I don't want to hurt her.
  • I feel that this relationship isn't "efficient" for the both of us in terms of money, sex, emotions.
  • This is my first relationship but I've had 2 one night stands before her. This is kind of new to me.

I know I am a terrible person. Should I remain in this relationship and see what happens next? Should I break up with her? What is the best way to break up with her? Any other thoughts?
