This is a great question. It must be the point where the man's SMV is 2-3x higher than his partner's and he regrows some balls. If they aren't already divorced by the point he reconsiders the terms of their arrangement - often acquiring some side tail.

Funny thing, mid-life crisis phenom is due to the women, especially from either breakup or menopause. It's a natural reaction and behavior for the male to show he is a fit mate to attract a new mate for procreation. Those that didn't were outbred by the ones who did, so consider it another present care of evo psych.

Onset of such behavior typically characterized as "mid life" crisis actually correlates most closely with the FERTILITY drop of the female partner.

That means a 26 year old guy with a 46 year old female is more likely to present the mid life crisis antics as opposed to a 46 year old man with a 26 year old female partner.

In short, mid life for the man has nothing to do with it. The ending of his mate's fertility does.

The midlife crisis is actually just men's response to their SO's fertility coming to an end. In men who never settle down, they never stop the mate attracting behaviors that men who are in LTRs begin espousing once again.

There's a growing popularity in quarter life crisis, right now.

The phenomenon of mid life crisis absolutely existed, and it is a phenomenon that can occur for individuals today.

Turning 40, and "heading over the hill", can be a stressful period of life. Its a moment when a human can safely say, 'I only have 20-40 years to live. Let's do something stupid." This is when men buy fast cars, women get plastic surgery, families fall apart while the adults are being selfish assholes.

Doesn't exist. Women only call out men for having a "mid life crisis" when in fact he's not young and stupid and appears to have no crisis at all.

It's actually the women in crisis when the big expenditure / investment / interest is NOT HER.

It doesn't actually exist. SHE is in crisis and could have been her entire life except that for a while a man saved her.

For the men who won't save-a-ho the crisis is NOW and ongoing. Men going their own way and/or men who are skittles-guy - plays the field, gives her skittles AT BEST.

The definition I always understood is that it is the point at which you realize most of what you will do you have done and it does not match up with your childhood expectations of what you would do in your lifetime. Typically it is about career, but it can be about women and joie de vivre.
