Apparently there's some built up resentment. I'd prefer they didn't split, because that would be a bit of a hassle. Don't think they will anyway, but still, I'd prefer they fixed their shit. I was talking to my dad last night because they had gone to a marriage counseling session, so I wanted to know the issues.
My dad exercises a lot, frequent hikes/bike rides. Mom can't keep up on the longer trips. He still invites her on shorter trips, but a lot of the time she doesn't want to go. We have also been skiing since we were young, but my mom doesn't really want to ski as much now.
My dad has been trying to have discussions with my mom, but she just blames him for everything (calls him a shitty father/husband, selfish, self-centered, etc... which he isn't). And apparently he doesn't do anything around the house, despite providing for our family for the 20 or so years she was just stay-at-home before she decided to work again. My dad is more introverted, while my mom is more extroverted. I wouldn't describe my dad as a beta, but neither of us really know what to do. She seems dead set on fighting every little issue.
Both of my parents are great parents, they've had some disagreements before on how to raise us (mom wanted to be stricter, dad usually took our side). I think it was a good balance and worked well.
Edit: On the surface, they appear happy. I wouldn't know if my dad didn't tell me.
