So I've encountered Chad. First, I'm gonna summarize the situation; my perspectives (up for discussion) and questions are at the bottom.
The guy is this foreign exchange student, early twenties, about 6'0", kind of hits that male aesthetics criteria (let's say he's an 8/10), somewhat athletic build, a beard. Huh.
He comes to this management class (a class I also happen to attend), sits in front of me, and does his own thing. He does stand out, visually, in this sea of nerds. Mid class, he whips out his phone, and opens up some instant messenger app. In there, all the conversations are with girls. There are lots of "heart" emoticons he receives from the girls, it seems.
When it is question time and/or when the topics in the class become unclear to some, he speaks up. Deep voice, confident, no hesitation, takes the lead, chuckles occasionally. This does manage to turn heads of the few girls that attend the class.
The next week, he happens to be standing in the middle of the hallway, talking to two cute girls (or shall I say, females in heat). "So where you from, hurr, hurr". *giggle*. You get the idea. Also, this is a college of nerds - nobody approaches girls around there.
What can I learn from this experience?
I'm thinking... he's still a human, made of flesh and bone, just like the rest of us. His physicality doesn't seem all that imposing - in fact, if I were to fight it out with him, the odds might be about 3:2 in his favor (let's give him that -- but nothing some gym time (on my side) wouldn't fix)). Yeah, since I'm already thinking of kicking his ass, I'll admit it - I don't like Chads (whether that's an okay perspective, that is up for discussion; this post resonates with me).
He is also kind of mediocre (when he speaks up, it is far from insightful). I, a somewhat recovering perfectionist, would dislike being like that; he, apparently, seems content in his mediocrity. But hey, he does seem to get the girls...
His attitudes seems to be about owning the room. There's no hesitation, just naturally projected dominance (in my perspective, this is obnoxious^1, but as I said, I don't like Chads). So I'm thinking: how did he become like this? Must have been a lot of that positive feedback in his formative years - that, along with personality structure, I guess.
It does puzzle me. This obnoxious guy, he's nowhere near being significantly greater than me (on so many levels); and yet, our success rate with women is like a night and day. It seems the way a guy presents himself does go a long way.
What else can be extracted from this experience?^2
^1 I don't know, man. Having some priorities, and standing up for what is yours and/or what you strive for, sure. But filling the whole room with one's dominance seems like a chump move to me.
^2 Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind playing some dirty tricks on this guy. Me being the predator, him the prey, that would be an interesting perspective changer. If you have something mischievous on your mind, please do share.
