Women communicate feeling not information. This was a comfort test. She wasn't asking why you kept secrets from her, but more specifically "What are you feeling that you need to keep secrets from me"

There's any number of right ways to answer it, but the key is be an oak. You can bend, you can sway but in the end you're steady like an oak. You answered well, because you showed you're ok with her feelings, but they don't change who you are.

Conversely the worse thing someone can do is try to change her feelings, or DEER out of the situation.

"Wait, you have secrets too. Aren't I allowed to have some of my own? Do you not trust me?..."

These kinds of answer only reinforce her feelings that you are somehow in the wrong.

They need something to hold above your head. Time will come when they throw their tantrums and its easy to take from a shelf the things you helped put there and start throwing them at you.
